GenCon 2012 runner-up.

billiv15 placed second in 2012 with Skybuck, not even using any v-set pieces for Reinforcements. Urbanjedi has won/done well in Regionals last two years with all WOTC squads - won with Han Smuggler Cannon.

You couldn't be further from the truth there. Top-tier squads from the WotC era are still quite viable, and have even won the Gencon championship. And this is what the designers have intended, where instead of outpacing all the old stuff, they expand the meta and only replace that which was already obsolete when they started.

I think his point is that if you don't burn out on the top WOTC squads relatively quickly - there are a bunch of 2010 tournament results around demonstrating what these are- and want to move onto v-sets to broaden the playing spectrum, you're probably not a competitively minded player and wouldn't necessarily do well at a major tournament. Different groups are different - we had a group down the road from us who were using combinations of WOTC pieces well into 2012 before Kez introduced them to the v-sets, while our group was reading/sharing info from other competitive playgroups using Bloomilk and other resources and playing similar squads to what you'd find in a US tournament, so the switch to v-sets was natural.
