If I am playing a

501st legion clone trooper

and I have 3 regular 501st clone troopers (not the legion variety)

do I get squad assault?

Yes. As the character counts as both a 501st Clone Trooper and a 501st Legion Clone Trooper, either of those characters would count towards squad abilities for the Legion Trooper.
