AH, now THAT sounds a bit more interesting! I enjoyed Epic Duels (still do, actually, on occasion with my neighbor). But $100 for the base game, with plastic miniatures!?!?!

I know that I'll be picking up a copy in Spring 2015 (when it releases). My kids (ages 5,7,9,11) play and love Descent 2.0, and their dad does too. This is Descent ported into the SW universe, which is beautiful.
I obviously haven't played the minis game yet, but I'm reserving my judgment until I actually get a chance to play it. Weeks and I spoke with the lead designer of the game on Saturday afternoon, and he said that their playtesters reported that they were pleasantly surprised with how well the skirmish game worked.
The game will be both a board game and a skirmish game, and there's no reason it can't do both well. For reference, the whole reason that I bought my first Starter and Booster box of SWM was to use the minis in the roleplaying game. Then, on a whim, I read the rulebook and gave the skirmish game a try...I fell in love with it immediately. It started as an RPG and turned into a skirmish game. Could it be that something like Descent could port really well as a skirmish game too? I think it can.
And as someone else said, it really won't be hard to test it out: just print out cards and use proxies...we've all been doing that for a while, haven't we? In fact, I intend to use my current (painted) SW Minis in place of the (unpainted) minis that come with the game, since both games use circular bases on a 1-inch grid system.
