so Darth Caedus has affinity for characters whose name contain Galactic Alliance, Capt. Shevu from V-9 has Galactic Alliance listed in his SA area of his card and I can't remember if that means he would qualify for the affinity or if it actually has to be in his name which it clearly is not. Thanks in advance for the help.

Any character whose name contains Galactic Alliance or who has the Galactic Alliance special ability. Characters with the Galactic Alliance ability also count as characters whose names contain Galactic Alliance.

Follow-up question, do characters brought in through another characters affinity gain that faction? Example are Galactic alliance characters considered to be Sith?

Yes affinity changes your faction.
