So set 10 is wrapping up and set 11 is under way.(I'm extremely excited to play test for 11 btw ThumbsUp) I know that they are currently taking designer applications for 12, but I can't find anywhere who the other 3 designers are going to be. Have they picked the other 3 as of yet?

I think it is leaning towards Weeks, Echo, UrbanJedi - David, Daniel and Jason. This leaves the final spot for a new person that must fill out an application.

thats a nice set of designers. each brings something different to the table, should be an interesting set. i do have a question on how the set lists are produced. are like a certain number set aside for each designer to pick a piece they would like to do? kind of like a draft or something, or is the set list determined and then designers picked later, or how is that done?

designers make their own set list. They usually work together to try and get a theme going as well as making sure some of the top community wants are brought in as well and each designer usually has a couple of people they really want to make for a set as well. Then it is just compiling a set list and working from there.

If I remember correctly, for set 10 it went sort of like this. Al the designers read through the threads to see what the community wants. Then we created a large "wish list" which combined what the community wanted and what the designers wanted. Then we divided the number of slots between the designers and let them each submit there tops wants both U and Non U. we also submitted about 5 to 8 alternates in case two or more designers submitted the same character.

With the mini set, Rebels, it was based off of my feeling that many in the community would want new characters from that series. So to get a leg up i think just about all of us read the book before the show aired in October. Since that has fewer characters it was pretty simple to get the set list for that. Minus 1 or 2 which were a bit of a toss up where exactly they should go.

So the guys that designed V-set 6 are getting a chance to work together again? Not against them designing separately, but Im definately nervous that set six will repeat... but I just play test here, lol Nothing against the guys individually of course, but at the very least this seams like a PR nightmare...

I remember back when I talked out about the nightmare that set 6 was and everyone rushed to the defense of it and brushed off my comments because I'm just one of the Tennessee guys. We complain about everything right? Well no, actually when we complain there is a good reason. I won't get into all of that though, but it's nice to see others speaking out about that horrible set. Set 6 was a HUGE reason why TN left the game and made Legends. The power level of the game jumped a thousand fold. It was like no one on that set knew how to pump the brakes and say "no" when it came to designing. I would like to say they will be better the 2nd time around but do we really want to risk that and find out? Oh well, on a side note I'm super excited about a Duos Subset! Bulk loader droid will be a great RM for a Jacen and Jaina duo!

not only is it a repeat of set 6, it's still guys from the same gene pool as always.
using the same gene pool is a sure way to make defects.( "and he wore a hat, and he had a job, and he brought home the bacon, so that no one knew....he was a mongoloid")
new DNA was needed way be fore set 10.

Leaning towards doesn't mean it's finalized. I'm sure Jason and whoever new will pump the breaks. But it really would be nice to see a different mix, especially now with the current game state. V set 9, 10, 11 & 12 are going to be so important to balancing things. It would be really nice to see one of the New Zeland guys, like DrDaman, included on a design team. Since they seem to have a firm grasp on how to break and abuse stuff each year. Lol

I agree Dracul, I have been a big supporter of Daman designing on the vset. I'm not sure if he filled out the ridiculous application or not but he has a great understanding of the game and is a guy that plays at an extremely high level. I've also been a strong supporter of Matt Spry. The fact that he isn't on the design team is borderline criminal.

This kind of stuff doesn't really come natural to me. I'm not by any means a controversial person, but there have been some good points that have been brought up here.

In many ways the game is still recovering from the curb stomp that was set 6. There were a lot of good pieces in 6 but there were several that just threw the game into turmoil. Karrde and Daala come to mind along with Durge on Lancer. Daala had two erratas and then you had to errata the slaver and the snow trooper officer too.

I feel like set 12 could end up being a repeat of past issues as we have a similar lineup as set 6. My worry is that set 11 will help melee but then 12 will swing the pendulum back again so it becomes silver bullet and then silver bullet''s silver bullet. I do feel new blood is a good infusion and if you were to split up the two. One on 12 and then one on 13 you suddenly have a little more space for new blood and more checks and balances for the set.

I do take some part of the responsibility for Set 6 as I was a part of the committee and didn't see enough to help curb the issues before they arose. I've been trying to rectify that with the later sets. This is just me talking as another member of the community, but I feel some changes are overdue.

Yeah, this thread isn't going to end well. Some of the comments are edging a little too close to the personal for my tastes.
