howdy JeffGaming, great to see you on Bloomilk (as in, from the youtube channel?)
Hopefully, you can share any "battle reports" or customs you've made here too
Turning to V-Sets,
Virtual Sets, or VSets, are non-canonical extension cards which expand the limited WotC "official" miniature game, Star Wars Miniatures.
Some tournaments count these cards as official for the purposes of gameplay etc, and as TheHutts, KezzaMachine, Sithborg et al have reflected, there is more consistency and utility in many VSet pieces (it can get complicated).
Although, the only "official-official" cards would technically be the WotC ones; that would suck, because a lot of iconic characters simply never had a card made (Yaddle, Oppo Rancisis, etc) - luckily, VSets fix that.
There were physical cards for all sets, including the "EPIC" card variant (sorta like AT-AT, but for heroic characters intended for a 500pt+ variant of the game) - these usually get announced on the general forum here, the facebook group (if you use facebook), or kickstarters/indiegogo etc.
Alternately, many are available as .pdf's in print-ready CBYMK format,
so, these can be printed out on 180GSM-230GSM card etc (such as at a middletons, a officewerks or other stationary store, or some photo-print-kiosks). You can even try printing them out at home on a lazer printer etc, on vellum, etc.
It'd be great to see some decoupage/holofoil experiments, translucent statcards etc.
I strongly recommend laminating them, as the first set of cards I had, I spilled beer etc on a few and the colors ran
(to be fair, I've had similar things happen with WotC cards). Ultra-pro deck protectors only go so far
Most VSet cards are in VASSAL as well - the digital SWMinis gaming system,
and envisaged in SWMplay's future game app.
Making miniatures for the customs,
that has been a bit trickier -
The Lost Twenty 1 & 2 (TLT1, TLT2) were custom sets which encouraged people to try customising miniatures,
though nowadays with 3D printing becoming affordable, there are some other ways to commission or acquire minis too.
I'd recommend the FFG - "Imperial Assault" figures, or Knight Models' SW figures (they're still available direct, intermittently, from em).
(avoid "Star Wars- Command" figures like the plague - they're too big, and like army-men scale and level of detail).
Hopefully, there'll be a re-release of all to-date custom cards,
if more folks spread the word and know about Bloomilk, it can happen.
If you use VSet cards locally, be prepared for a lot of SWMinis gamers to still have never heard of them,
and for there to be some "VSet shock"
that said, they can be a lot of fun
