The vanilla piece of Boss is nonunique, and the V-Set piece is a unique.

Are either of these errata'd, or need to be errata'd?

I'm curious why the decision was made to make Boss unique if the vanilla piece was not unique.

None are errata'd.

Boss,ERC was made Unique because, well, he's a Unique character in the Star Wars universe, regardless of whatever strange thinking WotC used when deciding to make the original Boss non-Unique.

you can still have multiples in your squad, and play who's the Boss

When WotC designed Champions of the Force, the Republic Commandos and the Jedi Weapons Master aka Cin Drallig were all originally unique rares. However, when they realized they needed more commons/uncommons, they were turned into generic non-uniques. Why the commandos kept their name instead of being turned into something like "Republic Commando Demolitions Specialist" is unknown.

One neat thing about that is when they converted Drallig to the JWM, they forgot to adjust the points to reflect his non-uniqueness. This was considered the best mistake made in the design of the game though, as it forced WotC to adjust all future melee pieces with the JWM in mind, allowing melee units to finally become something more than a meatshield.
