Boy, I sure hope the 501st is better. It costs twice as much as the regular stormie. Honestly, is this a fair question?

Depends. 501st Stormies require a handful of them to get the most out of the Squad abilities. Normal stormies work better as filler and activation fodder. For their respective costs I would say they are about even in usefulness (assuming you are running 501st's with the Squad abilities).

At more than double the cost of a regular stormie it has the potential for more damage and higher attack, but for the same amount of points you get twice the number of troops. In the end it would depend on what squad your using I guess. Though personally I'd rather have more stormies of lower cost.

I would much rather have the Stormie for extra activations. The Squad abilities are always nice if you can pull them off, but are costly and hard to maintain. You need to spend at least 44 points (with no Vader) to attempt. It's hard to do it once and not have one piece sniped. Give me the 8 Stormies instead. Combined fire nets the same attack value. True the 501st can do more damage, but 2x Stormies usually require more attacks to be defeated than one 501st (the 10 to 20 HP is pretty much one hit either way with so much damage out there any more).
They each have their place, but personally, I prefer the classic.

Depends on what you plan on doing really, but ultimately depends what you want them to kill.
Want to kill other grunts? Then typical stormtroopers could probably do that role the best. After all, there are many ways to enhance a strom trooper to kill other grunts, Opptunist, Falucian Stormtrooper, basic boosts to attack and defence. With Mas, these guys can be deadly enough to weather the shots from many grunts really well in cover for a 5 point piece.
501st have interesting advantages, but lack the mass squad abilities of cody, which makes them really relient on staying fairly close to together to make the most of them, plus they need Imperial commander and Falucian stormtrooper to be truely effective.
Without Imperial Commandoer and Falucian stormtrooper, I would be hesitent to use them. 20 Hp is a hard sell, though undoubtably better then clone troopers and most other infantry types, except senate commandos, though they would have a hard time hitting 30 def stromtroopers, just having the guts to weather all those shots... Hehehe

I'm a fan of the swarm and you can swarm more effectively with the standard stormtroopers. Although the 501st is really good and I can see him finding his way into a few of squads.

My favourite part is during the unveiling of the team when you keep putting storm trooper after stormtrooper onto the board and watch your opponent beginning to squirm. haha

2 stormtroopers, or 1 501st trooper. If someone unique comes along, he could dropthe 501st in one turn. I would rather at least have a second chance to fire

Is it me, or does the 501st Stormtrooper look like the sculpt/paint was taken from a shoddy homemade costume?... ;)

It's like they forgot to calibrate where the eye-paint should go and it is way too far on either side of the helmet. Oh, well. The rest of the figs looked pretty good though. I also like the color scheme of the booster packs themselves. Dark, bold colors; they look really sharp.

There is nothing quite like a horde of Stormtroopers 'storming' up the board...

I got Merumeru. I don't play Wookies that often, but he's not too bad. I'm thinking about throwing him in with a few OR Wookies and seeing what they can do.
