Ok, everyone knows how figures for SWM are made right? The makers choose characters based on popularity and usability and what not. Then they base their stats off of what they can or do in that particular movie, show, book, or comic.
So I was thinking about that little bot named R2-D2 and I remembered when R2 was on Jabba's Sailbarg, watching Luke being push into the saalac pit, right? Luke Nods; and R2 *throws* him his lightsaber. Would this be enough to make a R2 with lightsaber throw? Anyone noticed anything like that? Feel free to share!
R2-D2 with Lightsaber
Cost 15 HP 30 Def 17 Att 5 Dam 20
SA
Droid LightSaber Throw: replaces attack, range six, can make an attack against one enemy.
OR Dispense LightSaber: replaces turn, choose one ally within six squares, that ally gains the Special Ability Lightsaber: plus 10 damage against adjacent enemies. This Special Ability may only be used once.
Is there anything, you noticed, that would be funny or cool, but hopefully nevers happens?

If he doesn't have melee attack, what's the point of giving him Lightsaber Throw?
I do like the second version, though. I made custom stats for R2 from the sail barge scenes, and the ability I used to represent his "shooting" the lightsaber at Luke is nearly identical to yours.

The second abilty is the one Darth Necro and I came up with for the custom set competition. We called it R2-D2, Captured Droid and one of its SAs was Concealed Weapon, at the start of the skirmish, choose on ally with a force rating that does not have a lightsaber. That character gains the ability Lightsaber for the rest of the skirmish. Just think about all those Leias that dont have one not the mention Han, Scoundrel and Yoda of Dagobah.

Oh, how cool would it be to give Yoda that lightsaber.

That, or you could just make the ability clarify that you can only give lightsabers to characters who don't have one yet.

I like this one. I presume when it says "This Special Ability may only be used once." it means that R2 can only dispense one lightsaber, not that the recipient of the lightsaber can only use the lightsaber once? It's really not an overpowered ability so it should work just fine. +10 damage, but it only against adjacent enemies. And since most powerful melee figures already has a lightsaber this bonus would mostly apply to shooters. And they don't really want to be adjacent most of the time anyway so it won't help them too much. Though lightsaber also comes with damage reduction. So you could give it to Cad Bane and he'd really be able to do a number against, say, an opposing Snowspeeder. You might want to restrict the recipients to small and medium bases though to avoid abominations like Snowspeeders with a Lightsaber. Also, Jarael with a Lightsaber and an Ithorian Commander might be a bit awkward.

IM betting he planned it to be a rebel rigure also so only fringe or rebels would get it. and there arent to many large fringe characters. I also think by its wording it would apply to characters with a lightsaber that dont have the lightsaber special abillities.

I protest the concept of a Wampa, Boma, Shyrack or Bacta Tank with a lightsaber for aestethic reasons and the easy way to eliminate that kind of sillyness seems to be to make large pieces ineligible. While Yuzzem in theory could be given a lightsaber I just don't see a deluge of squads waiting to be built with a lightsaber wielding Yuzzem. It would not matter very much if he could not benefit. Also I oppose the idea of giving a guy which already has a lightsaber another lightsaber and expect it to make a big difference. If someone really would insist on playing a squad where Luke benefits from the Lightsaber ability they'd just have to be prepared to bring out "Luke Skywalker, Rebel" and that's that.
