this thread will be closed in 2 weeks. :) so try and get your votes and/or comments in! :)
IMO, GOWK since he's 11 points less and has renewal, MOTF2, more force powers, and (IMO) a more useful CE...

Well, considering that one was banned, it would seem that he would naturally be the better piece...
Flobi has some tricks, but IMO Gowk is much more cost effective.

I know he isn't banned anymore, but if he was nasty enough to get banned, you would assume that he's a brutal piece, which he is.

i stil believe overall that GOWK is the best of the 2...if FlObi's SSM was really SSM as it states on the card text then they'd both be even...but now that BOTH have been errata'd GOWK's better now

As for the second part. Look at who was in charge of writing the floor rules for DCI, and who will be taking over the main tournament organizing post WOTC. The change is not going to be changing for the vast amount of organized play.

I think its all about the squad. If your making a squad based on Commanders Flobi is better but if your using followers GOWK is better. Flobi has Suprise move and Flight so he can get away from double/Triple attackers that are based on him. So I think they are even on trying to stay alive. If I want to use Gen skywalker and Rex Flobi is better. If I want use mace CS and Jwm Gowk is. Really the Extra force and MOTF make GOWK a little better but I still think Flobi and GOWK are about even.

Hmm. Flobi kind of has a retro-50's cosmonaut look going on. GOWK has a nice, clean look with his battle armor. However, they both lose points for the helmet hair and the peace-sign opening fighting stance. Flobi doesn't have to worry about running to the bathroom in his astronaut suit. GOWK would have to deal with the multitude of pieces of armor to take care of business. So preparedness and ability to persevere in a high stress situation goes to Flobes. Flobi is also the name of a crummy vacuum haircutting system. GOWK sounds likes a noise some large swamp bird would make during the setting of the sun.
All in all, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. But in the end, the biggest loser is Alec Guinness, may he rest in peace.

Stats-wise, I think Gowk has the edge. Beyond stats, the idea doesn't make sense, even for a clone wars cartoon: Obi Wan would not have never worn a Jet Pack

It really depends on if your running dash or rex. Rex goes with Flobi, Dash goes with GOWK. The combo of Dash/Gowk is cheaper and has much better survive ability, while the flobi/rex combo puts out more damage but is a little lighter on defence.
Ill take the Dash/GOWK combo just about everyday.

I voted GOWK. I think they are both excellent pieces. The change to SSM hurts Flobi far more than GOWK imo. As Weeks says, one is more built for offence (Flobi) and the other for better survivability (GOWK). My personal feeling is that GOWK squads could still be excellent if built right and played well. GOWK with Feris Olin is a frustrating combo to face. Flobi is excellent in attacking builds. Flobi/Gen Sky/Jarael/TBSV is a very nasty build that can ruin your day if you're not prepared for it. GOWK is better.

I didn't realise how good GOWK was until I paired him up with the new Kit Fisto. He gives Kit a basic 24 def and 17 attack...get him within 6 of three enemies and you are laughing...then if he has cover, virtually untouchable to shooters.
Because of this I have experimented putting him in other builds. I like him. Flobi can move better, but lets not forget that GOWK has knight speed so can still move 10 and put on some hurt.

GOWK has a superiour modle in my opinon, I don't like playing spacemen on my board in a urben enviroment. XD
Personally, while the extra attacks has it's benfits, it largely depends what you run with him. Unless I was using a Greater Mobile attacker, I feel the extra attack would be wasted when extra defence and attack would have made small alterations to the battle. It's not a contest really, GOWK is better then Fliobi by a considerable marjin. Flight is not worth the loss of MOTF 2 and renewal.
Of course, there are some squads that prefer Jet Obi. Mainly greater mobile attackers such as Dash or Cad, but between the two GOWK is more powerful and useful.

I have Flobi's action figure :) LOL

I think it's 50/50, and just to show that, I officially picked Flobi (since GOWK was getting all the love). As with any piece like this (a top level competitive type piece), it's all about the squad design. As was mentioned, Flobi, Gen Sky, Jarael, TBSV is a nasty squad design, where every piece can mess you up from a long ways away (GMA is obviously a big help for extra attack CE). In beef type builds (more common obviously since there are far more pieces that can be used), GOWK tends to be better. But in terms of which build is actually better in a tournament, well quite simply I would posit that I would do equally well in a tournament with a GOWK squad as with a Flobi squad, and that each would be highly competitive.
If we keep seeing a lot of melee pieces being used, we aren't highly likely to see a lot of either at the Champs. But if what I expect happens, a lot of people turning to Mara/Han, Rebel shooters, and Cad/Dash/Rex, expect to see the two SSM figures being played. Which one depends on the build, but considering top level play tends to max points, I would expect GOWK to be seen in higher numbers at Gencon.
