They lost me when they gave the characters subtitles, such as "The Smuggler."

I'm actually really looking forward to this for games nights with friends. It looks like it will be better for group play than SWM in my opinion, plus it'll have new stuff coming out regularly. I don't think it will be anything like SWM, but I can see my playgroup enjoying this a lot when it comes out. Doesn't look like it will be as much of a money sink as other games too.

Ahhh, the naivety of the young (or young to FFG). To give you an idea, Imperial Assault is a blending of the Star Wars universe with Descent, 2nd Ed. Fine game, and I love it.

But, FFG does love their expansions. Just browse their fine collection of Descent expansions. Pay particular attention to price. They've already confirmed an equivalent to Lieutenant packs.

As for the Smuggler, I imagine it is their class if it is anything like Descent. So, your party must consist of one of each of the 4 different classes.

Do you think the miniatures will be painted or remain all white?

Unpainted. It's what keeps Descent and it's expansions as relatively cheap as they are. The miniatures will, however, blow away anything WOTC ever did.

Well I stand corrected. :p

Plan B: proxy in SWM figs and print my own cards.

That seems unlikely if they are unpainted. How would they be better? Also, can we anticipate that they will be booster packs with uc, c, r and vr or some other structured approach?

Fantasy Flights doesn't tend to do a rarity structure. You usually know what you are getting in the box.

They will, even unpainted FF has way better minis that WotC. Because none will ever look like this

@all
thanks for sharing this... after a mini's drought for a few years, suddenly the market is being flooded with 'official' figures once again!
Are these figures going to be roughly in scale with most of WotC? if they're like Tannhauser... they'll be only 1mm bigger, so perfect for the SWMinis or vice versa.
This is good and bad news:
good news, as we can port the game to our system. Bad news, because if we want to sell after this thing releases, people will be wanting to buy WOTC minis more than in the past, and we might get more for our collections...

I hope there's a star wars rebels pack, and hopefully a star wars republic era pack. New types of creatures or figures would be awesome.
We're getting about 9 new figures minimum in this FFG expansion, and most of those will be uniques.
As cool as most of these sculpts are,
the rest are essentially redos of existing characters, which as cool as the new 'high res' minis would be...
I think its a similar problem to Oppo Rancisis/naga monk: that fine line between being too detailed relative to the rest of your collection that it'll bug you.

Still, that nexu and all the new unique characters so far would be great additions to the collection BigGrin
These are much closer to in scale than are the Star Wars Command figures. great news all round, thanks for sharing!

I'm a bit afraid of it lol. I don't want to spend too much on another CMG.

Plus, it had better NOT make my SWM stock crash LOL

NOT that there's a large chance of that, as pego's prices are irresistible! Razz

It's not a miniature game. It's a boardgame with miniatures. Granted, it is a slight difference with how FFG expands their boardgames. But the base game is all you really need.

Just watched the demo video, it was cool to see Deri demo'ing the game. I will definitely pick this game up, looks like a lot of fun.

Descent is $80. We have to see other Ally and Villain packs to get a better idea of the value of Imperial Assault vs Descent. I imagine the license has a small factor to that. And, unlike say Armada, it is a complete game, and the expansions are not need (though very, very nice to have). All I know is, a Dark Forces Campaign expansion will have my money.

Well, hadn't seen that either. That's way overpriced. I got my SWM starter for $10. I was expecting $40 for one of these starters. If I play this, I'll pirate/proxy everything then. FFG isn't getting my money.

After losing money on X-Wing, there is no way I'll be dropping $100 on the starter set for a game I don't even know if I will enjoy.

This is not a starter set. This is a full board game. Comparing it to SWM is wrong; it should be compared to Descent, which has an $80 MSRP and contains less stuff.

Games aren't investments.

This game will be more complete than Armada with $100. And it sounds like it is a much more expansive and re-playable experience than Descent. The campaign will be plenty of time with the game.

Yes, there will be expansions. Many and they will cost a nice chunk of money. But, it will be cheaper in the long run than X-wing or Armada. And really, the competitive game FFG is trying to force down our throats isn't the main game, imo.
