Is this true? I understood from more than one of the guys in my SWM group that the differnt colored lightsabers actually indicated the differnt fighting styles (Shii-Cho, Vaapad, Artaru, etc...) is this correct?

And if so does anyone know of the listing of where to find this?

I am no expert, but I believe this is false.

No, there is no official meaning for the colors of lightsabers. However, in several of the video games, your initial LS color is based on the class that you choose. Guardians get Green, Consulars get Yellow, etc. But this is just a gimmick for the video games as far as I know.

The only reason Mace Windu has a purple lightsaber is because Sammy Jackson told George Lucas he wanted one.

In the days of the OR, lightsaber crystals were based (like Lobo said) on your class. The tradition carried into the CW era, but wasn't absolutely necessary. In the NR, it didnt apply at all. Lightsaber color didn't apply to the style at all, though different classes may have leaned towards different styles (Guardians towards Djem So, for example).

indeed the "meanings" behind color range form profoundly logical to simply absurd

mechanicly a crystal will cause foccused light to refract color based on it's properties

follow up to the Mace/Sam jackson-
there is a comic side story about how Mace went out of his way to collect a particular crystal to get the desired effect- his hubris caused him greater grief than intended...

Do you have a link to either the comic, or perhaps where I can purchase it? That would be pretty cool to have methinks.

While she is a redeemed Sith, Visas Marr continued to use her red lightsaber as a Jedi...

i would prefer to have one of the "white" ones that the fels have from the legacy era. since white is technically not a color, but rather the embodiment of all things color, a white lightsaber should arguably be the best there is.

to further dig into my color theory class from college, a black lightsaber would be the worst thing you could have. black, also is technically not a color either, but rather the embodiment of all things non-color.

everything inbetween is color. or rather what light lets us see as color. basically, if something is green, we only see it as green because the light that allows us to see the green object is only passing through the part of the spectrum that is green.

ill stop now cause i think im drifting away from the threads original idea.

But black looks so...epic! White is pretty cool too, but Starkiller with a black lightsaber is just way too cool to pass up. ;)

I played the end of The Force Unleashed with the black saber. Half because it looked cool, half because it was so freaking hard to jump up to that freaking crystal.

I can remember a bunch of years ago reading a book that said the different colors of the sabers do mean different abilities. If im correct for example i think the green meant more power & blue was more agility. & red is the easiest controlled & well more balanced in its abilities is why the sith use red. & then you have the other abilitiy crystals to add onto the style of the user. I cant remember the book i read it in but i remember reading it.

No, some of the old Jedi Council had red sabers. Off the top of my head, Yarael Poof, Depa Billaba, Yaddle...I think.
