Ok, fellwo Mandalorian leaders, let the examination of the Taung Warrior begin.

Will he be worthy of joining the Mandalorian cause? Or be left to rot like the Deathwatch Raider?

Poll will be up for 21 days. Please keep on topic, we are testing the Taung Warrior.

Not thrilled with him, but he does add himself in nicely as a low cost piece for when you're left with just a little too many points after building a squad but too little to add a commando.

Aww man, that Death watch raider tore into the booster tournament, with its +7/20 base and cunning attack.

He makes for an excellent meat shield with his 40 HP (particularly when used with Uliq). He'll also work quite well with either of the Mandalores.

The price is definitely right. He'll be useful.

Ok. Glad he is under 10 points, but there are many other figures that I'd rather use instead (at least in most cases). I'll probably need less than I pull in my case.

There are much better fringe options for 8 points of filler in most mando squads (R-7, MDx2), but will shine in squads with Ulic as bodyguard fodder. If holo sid is in there too, they might even hit something with a reroll. Doesnt bring a whole lot to the faction due to his stats, but at least it's something we didn't have before.

He finally allows a mando swarm. A very high HP swarm. Great with Twin and Momentum.

This is how I feel about it for the most part, unless you're building your squad specifically around these guys with something like the Indomitable/Captain swarm combo mentioned above.

Will definitely be nice with Ulic, but Ulic based squads aren't all that competitive anyways, so I'm not sure how much difference that really makes.

Looking at him. He's pretty interesting. I hesitate to say amazing, because he's only really a one shot deal. In lower point games, he will be under supported. But in 300 and above, could be notiable with a battle master or 2 thrown in. With Mandolore the ultimate, they get into range quickly.

Again, he's interesting, he can kill scrubs off effectively, just not fond of the orignal mandos having horrid defence and that he looks so different from every other mando figure. I would pay 10 points if he had a defence score of 17.

He's interesting, he's got enough beef on him to be a great swarm piece, with ultimate, he can get places quickly. Just it will probably be difficult to get him into doing damage often.

He's very comparable to the almost-never-played Mando Warrior from BH.

For 6 points less, you get:
-2 defense
-3 attack

- Mighty Swing
- MR 2

Cleave is severely hindered without MR2, but might pop up now and then. So he's cool, but not faction changing (unfortunately).

On that note, don't like his scupt.

I know he's an orignal mando, but he looks hiddously out of place in the rest of my red, blue boys and girls.

an 8 point Mandalorian allows people to finally make Mando Squads that have more then 8-10 (average) characters in their squad.
You look at most of the other 8 point scrubs out there, and they have 10 hp, he has 40. If you do the math, he costs double of what a Gran costs, and has a better chance of survivability. Granted, if you canned the Grans, you lose an activation, but he easily makes up for their lack of being able to hit something.
I wouldn't use him for swarm, but if I had to choose between 2 of them and a Gunslinger, I would have to boost my squad with the extra Act, But thats just me.

So far majority is saying the Taung Warrior is good.

Aas alot of people pointed out, he is decently priced for 40 hp and is readily useful by Ulic as body guards. Good point there.

A 1:5 cost:HP ratio is quite nice, so he definitely works well with Ulic. He'll also work pretty fun in a swarm squad with MtI/Captain/Quartermaster. Twin Momentum at +14 for 30 with Cleave will be very fun in 200.

Yeah, good uses for the Taung Warrior. I'd be more inclined to use Ulic if he were costed according to today's level of costing. He should be around 50. I've playtested him at around that level and found it more appropriate.
