If it's not too much work, can you run the percentages for each squad type?

Very roughly - categorising stuff off the top of my head, and recognising some squads are hard to fit into a category (eg Force Push, Caedus + shooters):

Swarms - been run 10 times, made it into top 4 six times: 60%

Melee - run 25 times, made it into the top 4 seven times: 28%

Strafe/Gallop - run 5 times, made it into the top 4 five times: 80%

Shooters - ruin 20 times, made it into the top 4 seven times: 35%

Looks like swarms and strafers are both doing very, very well......

Based on what's being run, the strafe/gallop is facing 4 times as many non-swarms as swarms. At least until it reaches the final 4. Although he categorized Tantives as non-swarm. To a Lancer, they're a swarm.

I wouldn't characterize the Naboo as a swarm, IMO. Also do five Gungan Artillerists count as a swarm?

What concerns me a little is that melee is run by far the most and doesn't fare as well. SWM has always been somewhat shooter dominated and there has always been a cry for Jedi to be better against shooters... I think of Qui Gonn in the movie, when told that Jedi couldn't be killed to which he replied, 'I wish that were true'.

I think the ability 'Covert Ops Training' was an interesting idea, although it was a bit too negative on melee pieces. Some kind of version that affects shooters under a certain points value. That would help Jedi against swarms and make the whole thing seem less of a big deal.

I think it's people like me who wish that melee was still competitive and are trying to find a way to make it so once again.

I see the Naboo Troopers/Soldiers in the same light as the Tantives.

No word of a lie, I agree with you Trev. As I had an absolute blast running my "Licensed to Kill" build last year at the PA regional.

I agree that the Gungans are a bit dubious, but I don't know where else to put them. The main characteristic is that they're a bunch of small pieces boosted by CEs from Tarpals and Amidala, so Swarm seems like the best category to me.

Naboo are totally a swarm - you have 100 points of commanders boosting 11 Naboo Troopers and 4 Naboo Soldiers. Tantives feel quite different to me, as they're primarily support for an attacker like Han Solo Smuggler or Luke Hero of Endor.

Here are some updated graphs too - they don't have results from the weekend (California and Chicago), as I haven't seen full lists for either, just top 4s:

Obviously Vong will be looking better once the Chicago and California results are in there....

Thanks - got it. Looks like lots of shooters and swarms (or shooty swarms) at Chicago. I can put up some updated graphs once I get a full list of California results.

I don't know if it matters at all, but I actually only had 7 points after Swiss.

OK - here are graphs with Chicago and California included. It is nice to see the two factions that have struggled over the last few years - Vong and Rebel - looking a lot better.

Imperial and Republic at #7 and #8 is weird!

I don't know if anyone else has tried this, but my friend and I have been playing games where we each use a random number generator to choose a Regional top 4 squad from the list on the first post of this thread.

The easy favourite of the squads that randomly came up for last night's games was Jason K's Gungan squad with Panaka - really fun, lots of movements, lots of tricks. My friend loved it, and destroyed me with it - it was on Grand Plaza, so it was very hard to advance against all the Cestas.

Mandalorian Block Party: Kelborn, Mandalore Ressurector, Shae, Jaina, Mirta

Russel
Imperial 1 Win, 1 Loss
Dalaa is coming: Daala, Snowtroopers commanders, Piett, Snowtroopers x A lot

After two sets of round robin the championship was between:

Myself "Republic Pocketbook" and Obi_Dan_Kenobi's Munnilist 10
Very close game where I got 270 points of reserves in the five rounds it lasted. But I just couldn't get past GOWKs soresu in time. Bringing a reserves team to a regional was a bit risky but Republic Pocketbook is the strongest one out there and helped me to win my other games no problem (the clone trooper on speeder bike is a great reserves option especially when I fought the auto-damage Vong swarm and I think would have helped me beat the Snowtroopers if it had gone that far). In the end though I ran out of time and wasn't able to finish off the 20 Hp left GOWK. Very close game.

The New Republic and Sith battled it out for third place and Embo's war machine armour combined with some killer Evade rolls helped the New Republic win that bout. Surprised no one brought Klats or Bastilla other than my Lobot reserves but up here people tend to play with a theme they enjoy rather then top meta. All in all a reserves team getting second place in our regional really was a surprise and a ton of fun. Well not to my opponents at least.

--Canada Regional Winner 2014 (Muunilinist 10)--
55 General Obi-Wan Kenobi
33 Captain Rex
27 ARC Trooper Captain Fordo
56 ARC Trooper Scout x4
9 R2-D2, Astromech Droid
8 Mas Amedda

(188pts. 9 activations)

What else was in the squad? Seems light on door control.
