After losing to 100pt Yoda twice in my three Hutt100 games (our 117pt season opener the previous month), I thought, "screw it, I'm gonna run this puppy," and did so. I liked the idea of running some teeth, a nice big phat piece that had plenty of ways to look after itself and I set about building around him. I did, at one point, consider running new Cad, new Aurra, Morrigan and the new Mira because I am currently 4-8 with Separatist squads so thought I needed to lift the numbers... but Yoda was too sexy. I added Qui-Gon for initiative, R2 because I'm not stoopid and then Clobot. Not Lobot! I wanted to run the Squash Squad, giving myself the best chance of getting copious amounts of reserves. I've always wanted to run a Squash Squad and tried various ways of making it work, but this is the first time one has actually been somewhat competitive. I took Cargo Docks because I was undefeated on it and it usually throws people. Note: I gave my Separatist squad to my brother, Bob, and he finished 6th - 2-2! Rock and/or roll. It was also my first HaweraCon in two years as I had missed last years one due to family/school commitments. It was sooooo good to be back!

First, I drew Mike. Mike Smuggler is a top player (as evidenced by the fact that he won the whole dance) and I'm always a little nervous about facing him. However, I figured I had a chance, albeit a slim one. I tried to get into position really early, but he was able to BX snipe R2 and strafe the rest of my squad with his speedy Durge. I just couldn't keep up with him! Durge managed to avoid Yoda and I had to try get to his commanders while being blown up by Drones. In the end, it was too much and I was Drone's out of the game. There was some hope, but his MTB completely nullified my Qui-Gon and reserves magic. I would have had some nice bonus' other wise. First ever loss on Cargo Docks!

Second game was against Kahu and he was rocking the new Palps... albeit without amazing support. The two Strike Master dudes were interesting additions, but my squad was a full-on melee killer. I was able to take my time and monster over Kahu. He's 10 and learning lots. We need to keep Save11 strong for another ten years at least so he can have a good shot at taking us out. And so that we can have a blast playing minis for the next ten years. Plus.

Third was the near-mirror match with Rich. He was running Pong Krell and Rex as opposed to my Yoda. It was a tight battle for the first half, but my Yoda was just too strong. I was able to take out pieces at my own pace and the second half of the game went quite quickly once I had Rex out of the picture.

Last for me was the match up against Dave/Daman. I was 4-5 vs Dave so knocking him over would have made it 5 a piece. On paper, I had a nice advantage too as I couldn't see his squad taking too much out of Yoda in a hurry. However, Dave is a smart cookie and his smarts coupled with my caution at getting to the middle meant that he was able to build up enough force points with GOWK to Soresu me out of the game. While I struggled to take anything out of Obi, He whittled me down and won 3-1 on time. Blast it! It was a game I could have one, but played to tentatively. Did Jar-Jar put me off? Maybe. Did Dave's awesomeness put me off? More likely.

Anyhoo, I finished on 7pts and went 2-2. Better than last time and far better than a punch in the face. I was so close to being 3-1 and making the knockouts, but Dave is too awesome. My two squads finished 5th and 6th. I rule.
