Well it looks like this is the new game we were expecting. I think this sends close to 0% the chances of SWM getting picked up with the same rules by another comapny, down from .001% Looks like dahatchet was right, V-sets killed the game! Anyways, come on over to Gamers. We'll do some good.

To come up with something like this it has had to have been in the works for some time. It does make me wonder if maybe WotC ended SWM because of this.

Right, not with WotC's ending SWM, but dahatchet had the notion that some other company would actually pick up the game with the same ruleset, which is to me now all but impossible, rather than really really ridiculously unlikely.

Okay, let's lay off the mocking, please.
I will reserve judgement of the game till I see the rules. Still doubt I will play it, as I doubt it will have any kind of tournament support.

I seriously doubt this will last. It's just another add on flavor for the figures, like the comtech chips, the mini holograms, and the droid parts. The only problem is that when this fails to catch on and they change flavors again, it might be suggested that the failure was due to "a lack of general interest in this style of gaming" (because few people will tell their bosses that they made a poor product, so it's easier to blame the consumer), and no further attempts at a real miniature combat game will be made for several years.

I don't think I'll play with the larger figures, just no interest. But, if the cards are compatible to the current WOTC game, they could be useful.

Agree on all particulars. Some people are obsessive about collecting EVERY LAST ONE of something, so they will go and buy another Luke Skywalker this, Obi-Wan that, just to be able to say that they really and truly do have the entire selection. Given that every single action figure comes with a die, I would guess that the "game" will be dead dog simple, something for kids to play at lunch instead of just bashing them into each other. All indicators are that this product is not aimed at us, is not meant to be a substitute or replacement for SWM, and will not scratch the itch for very much of our player base. I do get the feeling that Hasbro was hacked off at WOTC for dropping the game partly because they were going to come out with this and basically market it as a stepping-stone game. In other words, get your 6-year-old these 4'' figures, and they'll have fun, then when they turn 8 they should upgrade to the most sophisticated minis game. Pure prediction, but jives well with what we know.

Glympse wrote:The majority of SW fans are 20 years old and higher. Really? Then maybe the only thing to be done for the future of SWM is to market to more people including those younger than 20. I myself started when my Brother got me a revenge of the sith starter set when I was 15, and I've been hooked ever since. Perhaps, just maybe, we as a community should promote SWM to our friends and family. Like how my brother did with me. For the last 3 or so years (I'm almost 18) I have been hooked on minis. So if we can convince enough of our friends and family to invest into the game, and supply becomes VERY thin, then a company will decide to pick the game back up. One of the rules of supply and demand is that as demand goes up and supply goes down, producers want to produce more to make more money. The supply and demand finally meets at the equilibrium point. If the demand grows great enough the producers will try to make more money by re-producing the product and the equilibrium point will provide a larger supply than is currently available. Please take into account i'm only 18ish and very tired right now. But if this seems viable than please respond. Or if I have NO IDEA what i'm talking about then please respond as well. I can take cunstructive criticism.

Considering WOTC ended the line, and not sold it, no one will be picking up the game as is. There may be a new game, but unlikely to be compatable.

There is no way that this is cheaper than it would be to continue the Minis line. WotC isn't making this game, Hasbro is. The important distinction is that Hasbro already makes these figures, and were not planning on stopping. So the only thing extra they have to make is the dice, rules, cards, etc. The most expensive part, the plastic, is already being done. I don't like this idea at all though. It will probably be more focused on kids, which means it will be more simplified, and will probably have a very shoddy rule set. Not to mention the bigger figures will be more expensive and harder to store. here you go: Rodney Thompson via Facebook post wrote: Looks like Hasbro unveiled the Galactic Battle Game for the new Star Wars toys. I developed the cards and wrote the statistics for the game.

i might give it a try. it depends completly on who they make for figures. I agree. I wonder if they will do cards for older figures, like the ones from Attack of the Clones... which are before the "Legacy Edition"... I'm also curious if the vehicles for the 3 3/4" figures will be playable or not... Doubt it! Hey, anyone remember Captain Power??? Maybe Hasbro oughta do something like that with Star Wars? lol..... egads, or not...

"How could this day get any worse. i said it ironically so i dont think anything will happen." I agree with the first part, as I had a pretty good day! But yeah, for all we know, Hasbro planned on the 3 3/4 "game" knowing full well WOTC wouldn't be making any more SWM... It sort of reminds me of about 8 years ago when Wizards had an online Star Wars RPG demonstration on their website... using the 3 3/4 figures.. it was before the minis game and way before Saga Edition of the RPG. The demonstration had 2 players as Anakin and Padme going into the Droid Foundry on Geonosis...

It's just the latest pack-in for the action figure lines, so don't expect much of a competitive game. It might be fun to play if you have the pieces, but I'm not counting on increased sales just because of the pack-in. Most of the lines don't run for more than a year (or maybe two) until they switch to another pack-in and card style. There are images available from the latest Toy Show and you can see the cards. One image with Cad Bane for instance. Looks like each character has a rating in the following categories: Force Ability, Battle Skills, Intelligence, Mechanical Skill, Leadership and Luck.
