Thanks guys. It was a real blast to play in and everyone enjoyed it. Not sure if its the best place in the world to play, but its easily the best country I've ever played in. AND it still is the only country to ever feature a game of SWM at the top of an active volcano (I'll see if I can find the pictures for those who never saw it).

Yep, the Cad/Arfan etc squad was one I ran a while back and it was superfun, but also packed a nice punch. I nearly ran it last weekend!

And, Rundummy, keep your eye on cheap flights to NZ in July - we're having our big Nationals.... *wink*

I spent a lot of my game time leading up to LowerHuttACon play testing for set 10, so I hadn't spent much time developing a squad for LowerHuttACon. I'd been playing with a Rebel squad a couple of times with Tantives, but I chickened out a couple of days before and went with this:

27 Lobot
44 Commando Droid Officer x2
15 Geonosian Overseer
56 BX Commando Droid Sniper x4
12 Gha Nachkt
10 San Hill
9 Poggle the Lesser
3 Ugnaught Demolitionist
24 Geonosian Drone x12
(200pts. 24 activations)

I wanted to try and utilise the power of the Commando Droid Officers; I never practiced with it, but I figured it would do OK since it outactivated most things and had a lot of potential power. But in practice it felt really one dimensional to play and it needed some more denial abilities - if I ran something similar again, I'd probably go with either HK-47 for Disruptive or the Spotter Droid for Energy Shield.

I chose Command Deck as my map, but it didn't matter since I never won map roll.

Round 1: Kerry (Rebel beef with Obi-Wan, Luke, Momaw, Rieekan, Leia)
On paper, I figured this would be easy, but I think I under-estimated the power of Kerry's squad. With Evade and War Throat, he could counter a lot of my tricks - my bombs were hard to use with Momaw lurking and Rieekan meant I had to get adjacent to reliably hit stuff. He changed his Luke into Legacy of the Light Side, who became a nasty double twin accurate shooter at +13 for 30s with everything else in the squad.

I charged up way too recklessly, then I missed crucial attacks on an already damaged Luke with a BX Sniper - I got one adjacent and took two cannon shots from the CDOs, needing 6s to hit, I got a 3 and 5. I then won initiative and took another double attack; needing 2s I rolled a 1 and finally got one hit. In the meantime, Luke had time to kill all four BXs - he could pick off two per round with accurate, and I was way behind the game. I killed Momaw and Leia with bombs, but that was it. It was my first loss against a non-Moore in a ranked game since 2013.

In hindsight, one piece that would have been a good reinforcements choice would have been Figrin D'an - Draw Fire and Evade could have protected my Snipers from accurate, and Distraction could have turned off Evade for a crucial round.

Round 2: bye
After getting 3 points for my bye, I had 3 points and had only killed 2 pieces.

Round 3: Hayden (lots of Klat Thugs with superstealth and Grenades 30) on Ravaged Base.
With two high activation squads, this was a war of attrition. I bought in a Treadwell, Mouse, and MTB with Lobot. With so many pieces there was lots of action, but I often had the option of trading my 2 point pieces for 6 point pieces a lot, which helped a lot, and I rolled well on my grenade saves when I had to make them. It ended up being 200-66 in my favour, but luck was definitely on my side - should have been a lot closer. I was at 6 points from 3 games, and back up to the top tables for my last game.

Round 4: vs Sharron (Yobuck, 3 Klats, Jabba, Panaka, Mira of Nar Shadaa) on Asteroid Base.
This was the matchup that I decided I least wanted to face when I was registering squads. Sharron's squad has enough movement and options that it's hard for mine to keep up with, unless he makes a big mistake. We both made big mistakes - I moved all my Sniper Droids up with Intuition to try and close the gap across the board as quickly as possible. But he was able to just get Yobuck in there with a tow and put 20 damage on each one, then dropped a Klat Assassin in the middle of them. I had the choice of either shooting it and taking the 20 self destruct on all my droids or moving away and hoping he missed. I moved two away, and he hit both attacks - then he shot the third with Cunning, killing it. So I had a whole bunch of Snipers that were low on health and easy pickings for Yobuck.

Next round, Aaron took a Klat up the board, then swapped in Yobuck. He charged Yobuck up and killed some Snipers on his way, then tried to swap Yobuck out, when he remembered he'd already used Panaka that turn. I set up to kill Yobuck, and took him down with my double/twin Commando Droid Officer at the start of the next round, then gave my shot to the other Commando Droid Officer who shot R2.

Even then, it was still a very up hill battle - he'd already taken down a lot of my pieces and I was down to the two CDOs, a few bombs, and tech, and with Force Sense he could shoot at my Stealth pieces across the board with Mira and his two remaining Klats. The door popped open a little when Aaron's Mira failed an Evazan heal - she had to use her last force point to reroll which meant no more force sense. But Mira and the Klats were able to finish me off.

As I said above, my squad was underdeveloped, and I really needed some denial abilities to hang in against the top squads; I didn't play especially well either, but it also felt like a flawed squad. If I played Sep droids again, I might try something with IG-86s, HK-47, Whorm, and CDOs.

Also, in a more general note, there was a bit of concern about double swap in Imperials. Paul had a bye then a first up loss to Aaron, but once he got going no-one had an answer to all of his mobility. It'll be interesting to see how the Imperial Governor plays out in other metas - Paul was able to outactivate the other squads in the top 4, but might not have that luxury in other tournaments.

The meta was also much more Jedi friendly than the last major I went to - the NZ Nationals midway though last year; there we saw three Force bubbles in the top 4, this time the only real anti-Jedi squad was Daman's charging Domain Lah Warriors.
