Could have special ability that nerfs his attacks against characters named Leia, Han or Chewie! :)
Doubt [If this character makes an attack against character who's name contain/counts as Leia, Han or Chewbacca make a save of 11. On failure attack is cancelled]

A 5 point piece that has both Satchel Charge and Relay Orders. Give up an activation (versus a Mouse and an Ugnaught for 6) to save one point. Droid (can't attack or be boosted at all) and low defense (so not a good blocker like a mouse).

They really feel like they need their own subfaction, but I don't think a new faction will fly this late in the game. So what, Vong? What about a "Joiner" SA that lets them share SAs with other characters with Joiner (though I think this would be close to Con Artist, I think). Their CEs could only affect characters that have Joiner, too.
It's entirely plausible that their subfaction can be Fringe. They had no real affinity for anything other than themselves. If I were to try and do some Ssi-Ruuvi customs (another group I'd love to see), I'd have them be a Fringe subfaction, too.

Also, in thinking of ways to improve the Vong, maybe something that gives them +10 damage in addition to Shaper. Maybe something in a CE to be expanded by the Yammosk? And some more species characteristic abilities. I think more should have Embrace of Pain and Jedi Hatred.

"Unique followers get +8 on saves for Lightsaber Deflect"
or
"Unique followers automatically pass saves for Lightsaber Deflect"
No Unique followers in Fringe/Republic with Lightsaber Deflect are all that great, and none have MotF2. One auto-pass (or nearly so) would be a nice boost.

Would a really basic piece with Empathy be possible for 4 points? I'd like it you could get a piece with Empathy and a Rakghoul or similar piece in with Lobot for 20 points or less - it would make a good swarm counter.

The Wrangler is basic but has some offensive potential with grenades. If you take that away could you have off 2 points? Or maybe make a slightly worse Empathy (within 3 or touch) to not totally outclass the Wrangler
