So.

Before I run it wrong, I thought I'd check. Daala gets prideful while she's top dog, Talon gives a bonus and gets a Ysalamiri while your squad is only Fringe'd. So what happens if:

You start your Imperial squad with a more expensive character, but it dies?
You start your Fringe squad with a non-Fringe (non-Independent) piece and then that dies?

or
You start with your Imperial squad just right - Daala is top dog - and then someone of a higher point cost betrays into your squad?
You start with your just-Fringees and then a non-Fringee betrays into your squad?

Clarification would be most efficacious.

I think the key here is, "While your squad contains". Wording, unless otherwise squashed by ruling(s), here indicates that this is a repeatedly checked condition. As such, it can change during the course of the game. My gut says it changes immediately but the timing is something I'm not confident about.

I think sithborg has addressed a few of these, I'll see if I can't find a few links...

From the FAQ
Q: Would it take effect if a higher cost character would be defeated?
A: No. If at any time there is a character whose cost is equal or higher to in the Prideful character's squad, Prideful cannot take effect. Even if defeated.

The key part is the definition of "in the squad", which is not obvious. You are still in the squad if you are defeated. However, you are not in the squad if...

* You are swapped out via Versatility or Pellaeon
* You change sides through Betrayl, Internal Strife, etc.

So to answer the question...

* Defeated characters still prevent Karrde or Daala's bonuses.
* Someone betraying into you squad could mess up the bonuses.
* You didn't ask, but if someone on your side betrays *out* of your squad, that could enable the bonuses.
