So...if I have Ferus Olin and use dark temptation and fail my save roll, can I spend a force point to re-roll it? I assume no because I would need MOTF 2, right? I also assume that if I have Anakin Ghost within six that wouldn't make any difference to the first question, right?

You have it correct. Ferus would need to be able to spend fp's another time in order to reroll with a force point. you could just have Ben Kenobi die first then use force spirit to give him pseudo MotF2. People like Lucien Draay, Jedi Master who has MotF2 with Dispassionate killer which can be fun, even if it's still risky.
