Question guys, what would we do differently if we were remaking the game now, knowing everything we know about the game and having access to all the Special abilities/force powers that we do now. Do you imagine certain pieces never being made? Or reworking the base stats/point costs of basic troopers?
What about strange wording that you wish was previously corrected? (like the weird interaction of Lightsaber +10?)

Just some food for thought.

I would want to make it scenario-based instead of kill-based. You get points for kills, but also points for performing certain objectives, like controlling certain areas of a map, doing damage to an object, things like that. The could also be scenarios where the map changes in simple ways, like every round the back 5 rows on both sides of the map go away, and any character in those rows when they go away are defeated.

This does a ton of interesting things; it makes the game more exciting in my opinion, it makes it interesting because the game is slightly different every time you play it, and it opens the design space considerably.

Had Daala and the Zygerrian done right because just looking at some of the discussion about that in the forums I think it made a few people pretty upset. Made less useless fodder pieces such as the Arcona Smuggler and the Klatoonian Enforcer. Made more competitively viable pieces for the Vong, Old Republic, Sith, and Mandos earlier on so the other factions didn't have such a huge head start on them.

Make characters with a Lightsaber count as Melee when adjacent.

I totally agree! In fact one of my favorite costume SA's I use for my custom pieces is a 'newer' Lightsaber SA.

I really like Echo's idea about scenarios, maybe it isn't to late?

I don't think it could be the standard format, but simple scenario play could be an alternate format. The idea comes from Warmachine, which uses scenarios for some of their tournaments. Before a match you roll a die to randomly get a scenario. They also change the list annually, so every year you're playing slightly different scenarios. It's a very cool system, and one I think more games would benefit from; SWM in particular.

I have suggested getting a bonus for reaching the enemy's starting zone. Special abilities that grant the bonus, not a rule change. Anyway there didn't seem to be any support for the idea but it goes along with the concept of making the game more like a scenario.

I do like the idea of Warhammer-esque scenarios. You could even make them map-specific (for theme's sake).

Speaking of scenarios, I've just started playing SWM: Campaign Edition with my kids (all 4 of them, ages 5-10) and they LOVE it. They won't stop asking when we can play again!

I'm a cheap ass, are those Campaigns for download anywhere?

If I can change something from day 1 of this game I would add range on weapons. Or add a small nerf to attacks farther than X squares. maybe something small like -2 attack for farther than 12 squares. Then special units like Boba and other assassin/sniper types could have had an ability to ignore this effect.

Yes, quite so. And their dad just happens to have all of the SW Saga Edition books. ;)

A few ideas...

1. Species-specific speed ratings. Why do Jawas and Wookiees both have Speed 6 when tailoring to the species' physiology makes things much more dynamic?
2. Inanimate objects that characters can interact with. What's that, my Jedi with Force Push 2 is in range of a rock. I'll just push that rock at an enemy for some fun effect.
3. Empty vehicles/weapons that can be piloted by any character but piloted with a bonus by those with Pilot/Ground Pilot.
4. Djem So/Riposte being limited by the character's own melee reach.
5. More cowbell!
