If a character has charging assault and ambush, can they use charging assault to run up on someone and ambush to make all of their attacks?

No as charging assault replaces your turn. This is in the FAQ. It would function the same as charging fire.

I thought it was because the wording on Charging assault says "an attack", meaning one attack, and only one (with the exception of twin) and not the replaces turn thingy.

in the faq it also states that you cannot use greater mobile attack with the replaces attacks abilities which is pretty much the same thing.

Thanks for pointing me to Greater Mobile. Know I'd seen that "one attack" thing somewhere: "you do get to make "all" your attacks but "all" your attacks is the single attack granted by Charging Fire after your movement is over" This may be silly, but it has been picking at my brain since Sunday.

You can (and always have been able to to my knowledge) move, use a replaces attacks ability (twice with tarpals) and then move your remaining squares if you have mobile/GMA. Now you CANNOT use a zero time ability in the middle of a move (ie force stun or a Jedi Mind Trick, etc).

This character can move both before and after attacking (or using an ability that replaces attacks). The character can make multiple attacks (if any) even though it is moving on its turn. It must stop and make all its attacks before resuming movement, and the space it stops in must be a legal position for ending movement, even if the character continues to move this turn. Its total movement cannot be more than its speed. It is subject to attacks of opportunity as normal. This total distance can be increased by commander effects, Force powers, and so on.
