I think it would be really cool if there was an RPG style where the players start off as force sensitive characters and work their way up and find themselves on multiple quests to rescue somebody or defeat some boss.

They would earn points to spend towards learning new abilities and upgrading their stats.

does anything like this exist? something with upgrade paths and a loose story line.

Thanks

Campaign Edition sounds like something you might want to look at: http://www.bloomilk.com/forums/default.aspx?g=posts&m=162616

If you want more traditionaly RPGs Wizards of the Coast's Saga Edition from a few years ago is still fairly easy to grab books for/find documents online and Fantasy Flight started their RPG a few years ago and is still ongoing.

I would definitely recommend the Campaign Edition. I'm doing one now. You get to make your own characters, level up, and create your own story. Kind of like KOTOR. The only thing is, one person in your playgroup would have to sacrifice and be the GM (Games Master) who creates the story and levels for the other players. It's a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. I'm currently the GM for a campaign and what's cool about it is the rules are rather open. You can create new enemies aside from standard minis for your players to face, and make new things like gear for them to find to help out their characters (also like KOTOR). Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I am reading the giant rules PDF now. I want to do this for my 8 year old and his buddy. I play minis with my son's friend's dad so I would be GM and those 3 could play. It would be a nice way for a group to play together.

finished the rules but I don't understand what your characters cost has to do with anything. I'm going to make some practice character later. THis looks like a lot of fun

SWM: Campaign Edition is a lot of fun.

If you want another taste of it, and especially if you're a fan of Descent, give Imperial Assault a try:

It is a fun addition/expansion of SWM. We've tried a variation of this with our league play and they enjoyed using their creativity.

The character cost is so that you can create characters and:
a) fit them into a SWM game; ie - a 32 point Campaign Edition character/figure will be (somewhat) comparable to a 32 point WotC figure.
b) keep the player characters balanced with the foes they will face; kind of like a 3rd level D&D fighter going against a 3rd level D&D monster.

Hope that helps and let us know how your play sessions go.

To start with and it took me a while to decide, but I made my character that I would use.

Sith Devastator - 24
level 1
Hp 50
D - 16
A - 9
Dam - 10

Unique, melee, lightsaber
force 2, force push 2

My idea of the character is somebody who is dabbling with controlling the force and learning how to move objects but is very interested in what more the force can do. At this point the character is lightside, but very interested in and easily tempted by what the darkside could offer.

Now the hard part....I have to explain everything to my son, my neighbor and his son. I think we can pull it off. I will have to dumb the game down a bit to and help the kids make their characters.

So far, for 24 points, this piece would never see the table in regular minis =)

In my campaign, I had my characters have a choice to enter gladiatorial games to earn credits. They would up getting matched up against each other and defeating one another. They got the number of experience points that the other person cost. Occasionally there is a power or CE that has to do with cost also.

Here is the link to the SWM {CE} site that Fool put up a while back. Haven't seen him on there in over a year or more though. But he put up lots of good info there. Smile http://bswmce1.runboard.com/

Looking for know Star Wars storyline/timeline help. I've found a wiki telling me that the Star Wars story is at 138 ABY with peace in the galaxy as Ania Solo defeated the Sith, Darth Wredd. Am I missing anything. Do the books, go past this point? What happened to the Vong?

Can somebody help me with the end of the known timeline? ABY ?, Which faction is currently in control? Who is the leader of this faction and who might be their successor should the die?

My story is built around being ahead of the known timeline so that I don't interfere with any known storyline. That way I can build up my own story and characters.

Thanks guys. I'm really getting into this. so is my kid. He is foaming at the mouth ready to bite into the game!

138 ABY is as far as the storyline goes, its called the Legacy Era (there may be stories set after that I don't know.) from the comics Star Wars Legacy (they are quite good, most follow Cade Skywalker+others against Darth Kryat and his One Sith, the most recent series focused on Ania)

The most current Leadership is the Triumvir of the Galactic Alliance (now a melding of the Fel Empire and the New Republic) of Jedi Master K'kkruk, Empresses Marassiah Fel, and Admiral Gar Starzi. If one of them dies another Jedi Master, Fel, and Military Official would most likely take their place respectively.

Vong are beaten and integrated into NR society (way before Legacy) a bit though only a few important characters (shapers) show up in Legacy if I remember correctly.

since the Star Wars comics line is moving to Marvel soon I'm fairly certain this will be the last event in the Legacies timeline for a long while (probably ever,) so mess with stuff from this point on all you like you won't be stepping on any stories.

Nope. The new storyline is that Disney hated all the Star Wars fans so Mickey Mouse built the third Death Star and blew up the whole EU.

So we played through 2 missions so far but I only have 4 mission typed up for what I want to take out to about 7 or 8 total missions. It's been a lot of fun so far with my neighbor and his son and my son playing the role of 3 young Jedi and I am the DM of sorts.

I'm a bit scared to share because I'm not the best writer but I want to share to see what you guys think. For my fragile writer's less than thick skin, please don't flame on me.

basic backdrop to the storyline
The order of the sith has been destroyed since 138 ABY and the galaxy has been at peace. It is now peacefully governed by the Galactic Alliance, Fel Empire and the New Jedi Order who have combined to be known as the Galactic Federation Triumvirate lead by Gar Stazi, Marasiah Fel, and Jedi Master K'Kruhk respectively. The New Jedi Order has continued to train young jedi to protect the galaxy. Our young heros (the players) are young jedi still in training. They are becoming senior trainees and it's time to build thier own lightsabers

Quest 1
It's time for the young jedi to find their lightsaber adegan crystals. They journey to HALM and the crystal caves.
This was the first mission and I wanted to see how the team would work together and to test my DMing skills, I suck but I'm getting better =). The intent was for the kids to get a feel of playing as a team instead of against each other, thank goodness they had an adult with them to help guide the mission from the player side =)
The players mission was to find 3 crystals and if they could return 5, they would be awarded bonus xp. They had to fight vs "Crystal Eaters" using Kintan Stiders and a Crystal Eater Master played by a boma. The Crystal Eaters tried to get to the crystals and eat them, so the players had to formulate a plan to get to the monsters and kill them before they could ruin the mission. The team did well and completed with the bonus as I expected they would

Quest 2
Bored with their training and while studying in the great jedi library they found literature of an old sith ruled planet in the outer rim, Dromund Kaas. They read that in the ancient temple outside of Kaas City that the sith have texts and holocrons from ancient sith lords. The young jedi brought this to their instructor Master Lou-oh Oran who informed his students that it was only a legend as the sith have been destroyed for years and those stories of sith are history lessons and nothing more. A year and a half later the instructor decided that for a training expedition they were to go to Dromund Kaas. The young jedi are to go to Dromund Kass and return with either evidence of sith teachings that would need to be destroyed or confirm that it was all a myth.
The team did well in this mission as well. The enemies were dumbed down Gundarks and a Gundark Elder. As they thought the mission was over by reaching the back of the hall and retrieving a glowing object (blue lego piece of chi from my sons legend of chima lego set) They see in a dark corner of the room a red lightsaber ignite. The figure (played by the Darth Nihlius figure) rushed into battle with the characters until it beats them each to 10 HP. At that point the sith lifts all three of them and pins them against the wall and spits out some monolog that I don't quite remember exactly how I spit it out but to the point of the Sith are returning to control the gallaxy and he offers the players a chance to join him. I thought this was a really cool idea as it opens the players up to change the story. The trick was they all had to pick as a group obviously for story reasons. Even though my sith side story seems way more interesting to me, the kids being filled with light side energy choose to stay the path of the lightside, not really caring about my neighbors opinion... So just as they choose and the masked sith is about to deliver their doom Master Oran rushes in and saves the young jedi. Now Master Oran and the Sith Lord are about to duel, but it was late in the evening and we called it quits on that note leaving them hungry for more

My next plan is for the jedi to escape the Sith Temple. Then the next mission is to stop Sith troops/acolytes dressed as NR troops/jedi from destorying a large town which they accuse of being a weapon sight for an underground crime ring. The intent is to breed hate for the jedi which is barely tolerated already by most civilians. The angle I'm going for is a political takeover by the sith once the galaxy sees and hears more and more about these random attacks on villages by the Jedi Order. My creativity feels lacking but I need fluff to story to drag it out and give the players something to fight which seems to be the major thing the kids what to do anyway no matter what the story =)

Any suggestions or tips for my storyline? The characters I've built for the players to fight have been just right for their current strength. Sorry if it's TL;DR

FINALLY I finished writing the storyline and we continued playing. This is going to get into the TL;DR range, but I hope you enjoy checking in on this and maybe even trigger some of you to try it.

Picking up at the end of quest 2
Master Lou-oh Oran has a battle with the Sith Lord.
The 3 players were not able to help him for 1 round. After a few rounds of fighting, The Sith Lord knew he could not take on 4 jedi....yet. So before our heros could destroy him, he opens a portal and jumps in taking with him 3 glowing objects. (This was kind of cheesy, but the young boys like that kind of thing so I used it)

Quest 3
The Jedi have avoided death from the Hidden Sith but your master is in very bad condition. You must make it back to your transport ship and get Master Lou-ou back to the jedi temple on Coruscant. The young jedi will have to fight through gundarks and sith minions on their way back to the ship. Players are not allowed to level up yet and must roll to determine HP recovery before the mission Players regain HP based on dice roll. 1 - 15 regains 10 HP and 1 FP. 16-20 regains 20 HP each, all FP.
Here the group did well. My son was in charge of the recovery roll and rolled a 17 so the group was pretty excited. They moved through the temple slowly protecting Oran. They may have been a bit too cautious and gundarks from the other end of the room caught up to them which made for a tough situation. With some incredible rolling and a bit of mercy from the GM they were able to make it through the wave of Gundarks and faced off against a mildly powerful sith acolyte with force 2 and force grip. They barely escaped this fight. When they came to the final chamber before exiting I added a little twist. As soon as they opened the door, 1 last Gundark was added. The players had about 20 HP each at this point. My Neighbor rushed in and scored a hit, but the two boys failed to hit. Then Gundark activated and KOed my neighbor which doesn't kill him permanently, but does make them lose some bonus XP at the end of the mission. It was a good lesson to show them that the GM can do as he wants and to always play as a team. Keep in mind these gundarks are not the real ones. these are made up ones with single attack and 30 HP

Quest 4
There have been reports of men with lightsabers attacking cities all over the galaxy and local defenses have all been destroyed, captured or killed. The Galactic Federation Triumvirate have dispatched jedi from the NEW JEDI ORDER to neutralize the threat. You are sent to the town of Stevebs on planet TEYR to investigate. This is surely the work of the sith you encountered on Dromund Kaas.
The players were very excited for this mission since they were able to level up and gain new abilities. They also gained damage 20, so they can really start doing damage, but the enemies get much tougher too. The map was the one with a bunch of trees and a large building. It has 3 speeders on it in front of the trees so I made that their starting point, each on a speeder. I think it might be the AT-ST map. The players faced multiple sith troopers and 2 more of the sith acolytes I created. The troopers had a commander that gave the troopers within 6 Double Attack. The commander 2 troopers and an acolyte were on one side of the building and 2 troopers and a acolyte were on the other. The players chose to go to the side with the commander. It was not a good plan. Taking all those double shots did some major damage. The players all lived but it was close. When they met up with the other side of the buildings enemies, they had little trouble dispatching them, which made me wonder if I made weak enemies. Once the cleared the enemies outside, they had to clear the building. They didn't know what was inside until they opened the door. It was fun to make them wonder and plan for it this time after what happened in the last mission. So they made their plan and opened the door and found.....1 trooper holding the town mayor hostage. A simple force lightning (I don't agree with this power as a jedi power but the rules allow it for some reason) ended the confrontation quickly.

That is where we left off for the night. I gave them a tease for the next mission..

Quest 5
While returning to Coruscant a transmission comes in from Master Oran. While you and the other Jedi of the Jedi Order were stopping attacks like the one on TEYR, Coruscant fell under attack from a very large party of sith enforcers and Sith Troopers. You need to get back to Coruscant and protect the Galactic Federation leadership. ** Your mission is to extract the leadership trio of Gar Stazi, Marasiah Fel, and Jedi Master K'Kruhk. You must get the leadership safely to a transport ship and sent to the emergency safety base of BOONA-3 the 3rd moon of Csilla. Prepare for anything and may the force be with you.

They all have time to level their charters between now and the next time we play. They are making very tough jedi so things are going to get really fun for them. I'll post updates the next time we play. I hope it's sooner than later. Feel free to post any questions.

Thanks for reading.
