So V-set 9 has been out for a little while now, hopefully some people have had the chance to play with the pieces some of at least build some squads. What are your top 5 favorite pieces from the set, and also your 5 least favorite from the set?
I'll post my tomorrow when I'm not doing this from my phone, just wanted to post the topic when I thought about it.

I haven't really got my head around a couple of the big new mechanics from the set (the Killik stuff with activating extra pieces and the Negotiation effects). Having said that:
Favourite: Roan Lands (I have lots of man love for Ferus, so making him even better and not needing Dodonna is great for 17 points) I-5YQ (like those squads with Rebel mid-range threats) Imperial Governor (brings Dominate way back into the mainstream, I imagine he'll reignite Thrawn) Tsavong Lah, Warrior Elite (great beatstick, even though it's still being debated whether the Domain Lah guys need him). Peace Brigade Commander (shooty Nom Anor squads are interesting). Also interested in Adi Gallia, NR Han, the cheap D-60 droid - lots of good pieces.
There's nothing that I really dislike, so I guess my bottom 5 would be more like uninspiring pieces.
It doesn't feel like there are too many power pieces in this set - feels like the even numbered v-sets are often more powerful than the odds for some reason? I should do some statistical analysis.....

I haven't played with the characters yet, but from initial reading of the stats...
Top 5 1. Kerra Holt: Rolling Attacks will help OR compete against swarms 2. Sifo Dyas: Placed Order fits him really well. Not sure how much I'll play him, but I like the flavor. 3. Gormak Bomb Disposal Expert: A long time coming. 4. Imperial Governor: I look forward to finding ways to abuse this. 5. Ewok with Catapult: Fun stuff, even if it's super fragile.
Bottom 5: Sorry - something has to be last, right? 2 because I'm worried about power level. 2 for missed opportunities. 1 for being convoluted.
1. Gold Squadron Ace: The range on these guys is a bit extreme. Worried it may be too much. 2. Yun Ne'Shel Priest: Shooters should be the Vong weakness since Force Immunity gives them such an advantage over Jedi. Evading on a 7 makes it not so much a weakness. 3. Han Solo, Corellian Legend: I like him okay, and I'm sure he'll see the table plenty. Just feels too similar to many other big shooters. Glad to have another NR Han - just think he could have had more of a "Han" feel to him. Being more of a "pure power" piece should make him see the table more, though. 4. Admiral Gar Stazi: Hit-shots could have been worse than death shots, but there are enough restrictions that it shouldn't be too bad. But there are so many restrictions it's kind of convoluted. But better that than being a bigger NPE than death shots. 5. Yarael Poof: Just here because of Flamusfracta. Missed opportunity to be something cool. It's just Grenades 40 but worse since it costs Force points.
Overall a good set. Thanks designers!

V-set 9 has so many refreshing new designs! I pick these 5 for being useful or at least a step in the right direction. 1. Kerra Holt - Rolling Attacks is murderous, relentless, merciless, and makes julienne fries! 2. Gormak Bomb Disposal Expert - Finally, an answer to those exploding bombs. 3. Imperial Governor. Dominate that actually works. What??… 4. Raynar Thul (Unuthul) - Hive Mind is so creative the design team grew a third eye... so they wouldn't go overboard. 5. Ewok With Catapult - Welcome targeting a square..HELL YES!! When didn’t you want to blow up a square?
The 5 characters i'm underwhelmed with I think got left till the last minute or got safety belts put on them. 1. Admiral Gar Stazi -This guy..He looks so good but when you try to build around him your like huh??? 2. Sifo-Dyas - A 48 point dude that if you kill him turns into 30 points of Order 66 guys... Based on first impressions I’m not sure that's a good thing in an environment where getting 3pt wins is imperative. 3. Captain Shevu - I LOVE Double Agent, a beautiful SA but the 30pt cost… not sure he needed to be so beefy. 4. Colonel Dyer- This guy got restricted because of Dalaa concerns. Good looking out design team! Sorry Dyer… 5. Imperial Missionary – The only thing keeping this piece from the eternal bin of darkness is Victory Without War which is going to be difficult to pull off. Also, I do not like Sith Healers… Healing is for wimpy Jedi.

1/2. Roan Lands and I-5YQ: they helped make two fun old Rebels into deadly little machines. Very excited to try them. 3. Sifo-Dyas: pretty much perfect flavor wise 4. Han Solo, Corellian Legend: A New Han that doesn't replace the old Han and helps out an old staple sounds nice to me. 5. (Cheating) Teebo and the Ewok Catapult both fun new additions to Ewok and Golden One squads.
And really the only piece I was underwhelmed with (I don't even dislike him) is Bail Organa. Giving Leia, AN is fine, and giving it to Princess Leia to protect her cannon CE is probably pretty good but without a bunch of high cost pieces Negotiations maybe seems a little less than helpful here. Plus Synergy +2, Rebels NEED a good attack boost and we have gotten these little pokes at it with Bail and the Bothan Spymaster, (good thing is they are both very protected stat boosts, downside is they need to be close.) Maybe I'm overlooking his usefulness.

Loved Play-testing this set. These are my Top 5 1. Adi Gallia- Absolute tank with a lot of buffing opportunities, but at the same time not a huge Melee threat 2. Death Watch Berserker- Cheap mass attacker that can be buffed. Plus it is Mandalorian. 3. Peace Brigade Commander- Great way to make vong shooters. Plus it makes the Thug more playable which is cool. 4. Passal Argent- Great boost for Huges that really could see play with this piece. 5. Ewok With Catapult - As Brian said. TARGET A FRICKIN SQUARE!
The 5 i'm not impressed with or underwhelmed by 1. Te Ani'la Mand'alor- Mandalorians being my favorite faction, i just felt he didn't help out his sub-faction well. 2. Leia Organa Solo, Chief of State- Feels like a missed opportunity to give her a great commander effect. 3. Sifo- Dyas- Just kind of felt like it missed the mark. The affinity for Dooku is cool by placed order seems off a bit. 4. Admiral Gar Stazi- the CE is just odd. I don't think it will become an issue of being overpowered. I am just not fond of characters having to risk AOO for an attack. 5. Jocasta Nu- Not realy a competitive piece. Her main trick is superceded by Jorus and the Dark woman.

As a designer on the set I'm about as biased as one could be, but here's my list: Lists are in no particular order Favorites: Han Solo, Corellian Legend: I love Wedge, and I love Han, so this is an easy one for me. He doesn't replace Han GH at all because they fill very different roles, and he opens up some compelling new NR builds. I think he's a lot of fun, and at just the right level of competitiveness. Corporate Alliance Energy Pummel: I'm very happy with how well this piece has been received. No, it isn't competitive, but it's a lot of fun to build around and I've seen people doing cool things with it. It's a different kind of piece than we've seen before, and I think the design came out exactly as intended. One-Arm: Like the Energy Pummel, not competitive, but I love tier 2 stuff. I built a squad for playtesting that used her and Mitthrawn to swap Wampas around, and it was a blast to play. Who doesn't like Wampas?!? I-5YQ: Now, this piece IS competitive. I love Rebels, and I always really liked Jax and Ferus. Talk about opening up new squad building opportunities, I-5 and Roan Lands create a whole new Rebel archetype, and I think it's a lot of fun. I always like when we can design pieces that create new types of squads as opposed to just get inserted into existing ones. Kerra Holt: She was one of the most heavily discussed pieces in the design process, and I think she came out really well. Rolling Attacks is a fantastic ability (props to FlyingArrow for the idea), and I think it will be a good addition to her faction. Her really low attack keeps her in a bit of a niche, but Loner helps. I'll have to think on my least favorites. Nothing came out that I really disliked, and I'm quite happy with the set overall. The Barabel Jedi Knight might cost a few points too many, Sebulba isn't very compelling in my opinion, Unuthul is a little too game-warping for my taste, Te Ani'la maybe should have been more immediately beneficial to the Neo Crusaders (originally he was, but the worry was that the Neo Crusaders might already be too good), and Tsavong Lah might not be better than just more Lah Warriors. I don't think those are major problems, though. But like I said at the start, I'm biased.

Favorites: 1: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Honorary Mandalorian - I like how he's got answers for everything and is super-durable without being overpowered. He's got Duelist for Melee, Soresu for ranged, Sweep for swarms, Force Push 4 for beatsticks, and Beskar'gam for all occasions. Not to mention, Force Push 4 is one of my favorite Force powers. 2: Army of Light Jedi Lord - Like Obi-Wan Mandobi, he's durable, has no gaping weaknesses, and is extremely cost-effective. I'm glad that Valenthyne finally got the support beats he needed :) 3: Gold Squadron Ace - Not meaning to start an argument by any means, but I wasn't really a fan of Klat Assassins running the show in their cost range. (actually, I'm not a huge fan of swarm squads anyways). All that to say, I like what the Ace does in curbing some piece's effectiveness, but I think he's still fairly costed. 4: I-5YQ - This piece is just awesome. Jax Pavan is one of my all-time favorite pieces, and I love what I-5 does for him. I wouldn't have noticed this if it weren't for someone else pointing it out, but I like how Painful Screech can trigger his Protective for himself. 5: Roan Lands - Although (at least at first glance) he doesn't seem to do a whole lot by himself, he helps out Ferus (another favorite of mine) so much that he's definitely worth his cost. Not to mention that he can easily get Evade from Rieekan, and those three together are a nice grouping, if not necessarily a good squad base. Although this is cheating, Kerra Holt, Ewok with Catapult, Han Cor, and Adi Gallia deserve honorable mention. Come to think of it, Han is probably #3 for me, but I've already written the others up so I'll leave it alone Dislikes... 1: Jocasta Nu - I would first like to say that I am aware of the careful thought, planning, and playtesting that goes into making the V-set pieces. However, I think Jocasta is just not worth her cost. Jorus is a better way to get phase unless you absolutely NEED a 44+ point Jedi. I can definitely see how Yobuck with Phase would be a very bad idea, but I think I would have preferred a much narrower range of restriction for Secret Passage than just higher cost. That, combined with Overconfident and low stats, just doesn’t suit my playing style. They are both good abilities, but I would be okay with some over-specific restrictions like ‘Target ally cannot have Galloping Attack’ or something like that. 2: I guess I don’t have much for a #2-5. I’m not a huge fan of the Killik’s, so if absolutely necessary, consider those my 2-5. I would like to say that I hope we get some good guys with Victory Without War. While it certainly fits the Imperial Missionary, I just think it’s ironic that what could potentially be the most powerful pacifist ability is on an Imperial/Sith piece.

1. Energy Pummel, I still think weak huges is the biggest flaw to yet be fixed from the mishandled WOTC days and this piece is a great step in the right direction. Huges should be mini boss fights, similar to BHC pieces in difficulty to take down but simple plodding death dealers. Great job on this piece and more like it please, the characters are waiting.
2. Passal Argente, again with the huge needs support rant but here we have a cheap commander fixing two of their biggest issues (if a tank is coming towards you, and Ewok isn't even a speed bump, let alone a tank barrier). Also an amazing CE that may even make me try to take huges to a regional.
3. Old Ben Kenobi, yes to more BHC pieces! (Still waiting on Grievous haha) this guy and the new Vader add a unique classic flavour and I am excited to have them duel it out. Great job and always the most anticipated pieces for me and our players that like the single epic piece each set.
4. Killiks! Awesome thought and design went into these pieces. Really like the direction taken for the faction and hoping to see some more cheaper swarm units, a huge bug, Ambrosia dealer (with ability to activate adjacent characters), and a queen with reinforcements for killiks similar to Voxyn Queen in the future. Great job!
5. Kerra Holt, love the character, very well designed and fitting. Just waiting for all of the Sith family and their rivals in future sets now right?
Honourable mention: DR. Nuvo! Love the area clearing poison ability and cost. I5YQ, I really like pieces like this that make WOTC pieces better without having to just simply replace them. Great job and cool new abilities! Keep at it with more support characters (LEEBO is waiting for old Dash)
Bottom 5
1. D60 Assault Droid, I don't see myself ever using him over the old Super Battle droids or an Assassin Droid, in that awkward position where he costs to much to be as good as cheaper swarming options and is not expensive enough to have something unique. Would have liked to see some new droid options, pilot battle droid (cheap 5 point huge repair piece w/ground pilot), Aqua Droids with ambush and double, bomb self destruct droids, remakes of the many needed huges/larges.
2. Leia Organa, Chief of State, I think her negotiation ability is too powerful as is by completely eliminating the ability to attack she could really shut down am enemy team. Maybe stopping non-adjacent attacks would have been more balanced.
3. Sebulba, anything that hurts the already beaten down huges I am against.
4. IT-O interrogator droid, I really want to like him but as melee droid it is way to fragile for it's high cost.
5. Keshiri Warrior, hoping they get a boost with some unique lost tribe Sith in the future (hint hint) because right now they are pretty lacklustre for their cost. As is they could have costed 6-7 points and been more swarm able.
All in all though a great new set with cool new ideas and more of the great pieces we love.
