I think that we are seeing way too many polls about things I consider to be cluttering the forum, such as best 3 point piece (no offense to it's OP); It seems like we had one person do it then anyone and their mother started making a poll about anything that came to mind. It seems with many polls that 'Other' is the most commonly selected. What good did that poll do? It seems like the polls are crowding out the more worthwhile threads, such as the potential imminent death of this game.

Another forum I was on had the same question about polls. Some people complained there were too many, but then something went wrong with the coding and now there aren't any polls, and people complain about that. So I don't think polls are a problem, to be honest. Just skip 'em if you don't wanna vote in 'em.

I don't know how many more system resources a poll thread takes when compared to a normal thread but on anything that asks a subjective question it is better than just asking for write in votes. With the thread asking what the best 3 point mini is all a person has to do is vote on a choice they like and don't need to fill up the thread with all kinds of meaningless text.

What's more meaningless, text that results from "Other" being the most picked response, or a poll where "Other" is the most picked response?

I'm not sure I unstand the question but the "other" option has its place even if it need to be elaborated on. When "other" is selected and a response explaining that selection is generated the value of the poll is no different than any other polling thread without the actual polling part. If "other" is the most picked response, with or without additional response support, it is just indicating that the poll is either too wide open or that the other options were poorly selected.

The key to a good poll is to make sure the question is clear and if possible the critia to make the choice is known plus selecting possible answers that are the most likely to fit those things.

I find that a thread on this topic would be more useless than a poll posted by a curious member wondering what SWM players think is the best three or four point piece. Unless you have insider information or are clairvoyant, there is nothing that could signify the end of SWM. While it is indeed possible, it was possible at any time in the past and will continue to be in the future. There's no sense worrying or creating threads about, for this will not stop the "end" of the game, if it is going to happen.

And I have found that what you find to be meaningless polls are actually quite interesting. So you are of one opinion, and I, another. These polls give players insight into the SWM community that could not otherwise be done.

Polls are not getting out of hand in any way. For each poll you point out that does nothing more than clutter the forum, I could point out a thread that does the same thing. The important/popular threads will remain on the first few pages for a time, and the "cluttering" ones will eventually be relegated to the back pages. Such is the way of forums.

Ummm, my point is that there's no point in doing a poll such as the one one about what mini should never have been made, since the majority of answers are not even listed. Why make it a poll if your options are poorly chosen? That's jsut my point, there's so many useless polls on here that don't have the answers that people would actually select.

Wow. maybe you should visit the Wizards forums and check out STSparks' thread. For you to say there is NOTHING signifying the end of SWM... well, ignorance is bliss I suppose. If you actually read what you quoted you'll note that I said "potential," It wasn't an OMG THE GAME IS DYING SELL ALL YOUR STUFF! statement. There's plenty of evidence (not absolute condemning evidence), you just need to stop ignoring it. It may turn out to be nothing. Or, MotF or even DT might be the last set. If you don;t think it's relevant for people to discuss on a set of forums about a game... that that game might be on it's way out of production...

Oh, I've checked out the thread. While the evidence may seem incriminating, there's a logical explanation for all of it, even if it doesn't make a lot of sense. We have to keep in mind that we're still in an economic slump, WotC firing a few employees and not comissioning artists is not really a sign the game is going out of production. If D&D and everything else WotC makes sell better than SWM, then they will focus their attention on it more. There have been countless threads on the topic of the game going out of production. In reality, the ressurection of these threads after what seems like every other set clutters forums at least as much as the polls of curious members.

These threads aren't going to change whether or not WotC continues to produce SWM. Since most members know what the other members know, these threads serve a purpose equal to that of curious members polls: interested members want to hear others' opinions.

Noticed that my 2 polls have been questioned. I think they are actually some of the more relevant ones IMO.
