Just after WOTC's lisence runs out Hasbro releases this:
STAR WARS GALACTIC BATTLE GAME (Available: August 1, 2010) STAR WARS fans, prepare to battle your friends in head-to-head action and unlock the hidden powers of your favorite action figures. In 2010, a wide selection of Hasbro’s STAR WARS 3 ¾ inch action figures will include the all-new STAR WARS GALACTIC BATTLE GAME. Each figure is packaged with a competitive gaming base, a unique battle attributes card and a die to play the game, allowing kids to interact with their STAR WARS action figures in a whole new way. Game on!
Fans can collect the GALACTIC BATTLE GAME components with STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS 3 ¾ inch ACTION FIGURES, STAR WARS SAGA LEGENDS 3 ¾ inch ACTION FIGURES, STAR WARS DELUXE FIGURE AND VEHICLES and STAR WARS BATTLE PACKS.
I know I saw some of the preview game cards and they looked very similar to the WOTC ones- course the game wont be on a map so I dont know that much will be useful for the old game....

This was announced quite a while ago. It's not intended as a replacement game, just something extra with the action figures, like the build-a-droid parts.

lol I didnt say it was intended as a replacement game ;) ... and yet it will be a replacement game in marketing terms since with out the WOTC line up it will be the only thing going. Since one license runs out and the other begins at the same time, and WOTC is a subsidiary of Hasbro, the timing sure isnt a coincidence ;)

If Hasbro / WotC were smart they would have marketed these better to kids, not just adults. I never saw any SWMinis in the Toys R Us, Walmart, KMart, etc... only in FLGS and Bookstores. Never once, even a single commercial during the Clone Wars cartoons or other sci-fi specials. Their marketing people should be FIRED ! How could they lose on this ? How could they let this go ? I know it sounds like Donald Trump, but Someone should be FIRED. If they would have marketed this right, they could have locked in an entire generation of kids.
Furthermore, I think they should have made some epic scale minis game. I'd love to push some AnA or microarmor scaled AT-TE's and AATs around the table.

Sadly Wizards missed a major boat in this economy.
As a parent of four I would have loved to seen them show parents what a bargain minis can be for the 10-12 year.
Instead paying $7 for Clone Trooper Bob (same price as say Anakin) and there is only one. They could have mentioned what a great bargain it was when your son or daughter can buy a booster of minis get that Anakin or Asoka but not just that you have included in the package a Clone Trooper Bob and a Battle Droid in the package as well as 4 others.
Then when you tell them that they can use the map like a play top well again there is more value to a parent. Now there kids wont have figures all over the floor they can have the same battle at a much lower cost on the dining room table and it is much less clutter and clean up.
Yeah great job Wizos.
