If a character is set up adjacent to a door during set up is that door immediatly opened or does that character have to activate and end his turn first for the door to be open???

Yes, it will open if you setup a character adjacent to a door. Note, a door will not open automatically using Intuition, you must wait for the first activation to end.

Intuition or not, doesn't the first activation of the round have to end before any doors are checked?

I believe that doors are checked after initial character setup and before the first initiative (and obviously activation).

I would expect that a player with character with intuition starting the game beside a (closed) door, would first check for doors (which would open the door), would roll for initiative, and could make an intuition move through the now open door.

Yes, that is indeed correct. (mental glitch on my part)

A: Yes. Doors adjacent to characters after setup are open prior to the first initiative roll.

Side note, this is oddly only covered in the CS rulebook.

Just came across this thread during a rules search. I was lied to at some point. Someone told me that door checks only happen at the end of turns so the first turn of the game the doors are all closed. I've mis-taught everyone I ever taught.

Also don't forget that during set-up all doors are considered closed, meaning that you cannot set up a large/huge over a door.

Unrelated, but there is also a special door check (separate from the normal end-of-turn door check) when you release an Override. The special door check is only for the released door, and it happens before you select another door to Override.

EDIT: OOPS. See below.

not so sure about that one. Selecting the new door happens before the old door is released. That is why you can't go up to a door you have overridden shut and override a door beyond that one open. There may be another door check in there somewhere at somepoint, but not before you select the new door.

You are correct! There is a door check for the released door, but the new door is selected first. Then the old door is released and it gets a door check.

In this thread, a 'door trick' is described, but the trick does not work because of that extra door check. That was what I had in mind. Sorry about that:
