what does it mean when (you are in the trade forum) there are messages saying "bump" under there trade list.

"bumping" is posting a reply in a thread so that it moves back to (or near) the top of the list of recently active threads in a forum. Threads that haven't had activity will slip out of sight as new threads are created, and many users will just skim the first page or two. Bumping puts the thread back where more people will see it.

Very handy for trade threads, but note that the trade forum rules don't allowing bumping a thread for a least 48 hours after the last post. That is to give everyone a fair chance to have their thread on the main page for a bit.
