A question came up this past week at our weekly play group about Traya and how Telekinetic Combat works.

The person using the character against me thought that seeing as it is not a "replaces attacks" ability that perhaps you would be able to move up to double speed and still make an attack.

After giving it some thought I'm thinking that this SA is more along the lines of Snare Rifle or some other SA that does not replace attacks; normal attacking rules apply, the special ability simply describes a certain nuance of the attack that is different from typical attacks.

Telekinetic combat: "This character may attack targets within 6 squares. This counts as an attack with a lightsaber and any attack against a nonadjacent target counts as a nonmelee attack."

Correct. Normal attacking rules apply BlooMilk

Think of it like Lightsaber throw. It's intended to work the same way with a couple of changed. 1st, it doesn't require the use of a force point representing the users ability to do it almost as second nature rather than a strict spending of their force abilities (precedent is the lightsaber styles like Djem so which is simply reposte without using force points). 2nd, it allows the combination with multiple attack abilities that lightsaber throw does not without being a tiered ability. All of it's rule interactions are set up otherwise to work the same way lightsaber throw does, so that it's simple and less confusing. If you understand lightsaber throw, you understand TC generally speaking.

Still following the standard targeting rules (adjacent or nearest character(s)), regardless of the range of 6 squares.

A difference between the two - with telekinetic combat, adjacent attacks are always melee attacks. With Lightsaber Throw, you could "Throw" your lightsaber at an adjacent character for a non-melee attack. It costs a force point, but it might be worth it to get around Parry/LS Block or Djem So/Riposte.

Yes, this part is correct.
