As I was about to un-bag two new imperial knights (thanks, Target), I realized that I already have seven of the little buggers - and I can't really think of any time I might use 154 points worth of them (let alone 198) at one time. Now, I love them - both the game pieces, and the Knights in SW lore - which explains why I wound up with so many in the first place. But I feel like I'm just hoarding them at this point, without any real use. Any ideas on what to do with them? Should I just keep them? Any custom ideas? Trade them? Do you have any pieces where you have more of them than you can really reasonably use? What have you done with them?

I think it is possibly to have too many of a crap mini that you will literally never use.
But Imperial Knights. I would love to have more of them than I have. And I have about 8 I think. It is just cool to have options if you need them, to lend to people or to have a giant war or something.

Well with the 500 point Epic skirmishes starting to gain in popularity you would certainly have a format to use a whole bunch of them in. Heck, you may even want to think about getting some more, lol!

Too many of one type of non-unique mini? I recognise the words individually, but put them in a sentence and I don't understand the meaning...
I will stop collecting when I have one million of a particular non-unique.

I think I have about 10 of each Imperial Knight. They look cool and are decent custom fodder.
The pieces I have the most of are Dark Side Adepts (22), Antarian Rangers (21), Elite Sith Troopers (18), and Mando Troopers (16). I love the look of the DSA (and have a few of the promo ones) so whenever I'm making a trade, if one is available, I try to nab it. I have a bunch of Antarian Rangers for convenience (7 each packed with the OR, NR, and Rep). The two trooper pieces are split between regular and promo versions.

i have at least 8 echani handmaidens, 5 of each of the republic commandos, at least 20 clone troopers (of various poses), and 30 battle droids (of different4 poses). i have realy only ever used them in a couple mass battles we created back in the day, (battle of Theed, Battle Of Christosis, and the second of each battle.) The handmaidens i only ever have used 4, but that may change with the epic format.

At Wampa Stompa one of the customs created by the Virginia guys was Darth Vader, made from an Imperial Knight. Cool pose, love this piece.

I've decided to not get rid of any of my figures for 2 reasons: 1 - never know when they may become good custom fodder 2 - never know when the V-Sets make them very playable again I've pretty much stopped trading altogether. I've even used VR dupes for customs fodder

I only have 62 Stormtroopers so far, can't think of a reason to stop collecting those badboys!
I have 5 each of the Knights, and would also take more. TBH I was a little surprised when I saw how "few" I had. I possibly have some listed for trade instead, as I would trade them to get something beter, a few of them anyway.
I just like the look of armies. I have not set up my armies for a while now - I should do so and take a few photos. 100+ troopers do look cool!
But yeah, I am not sure you can ever have too many minis, just too many R5s lol.

It's not just a game, it's an addiction! I suddenly feel the need to recount how many points of Imperials I have. My highest counts for specific non-uniques: 22 Geonosian Drones 21 Antarian Rangers (7 per faction like Gwek) 21 Younglings Rodian Brutes, Uggie Demos and Shadow Stormies are not far behind. I tend to collect enough to have one or more squads (in a mass combat scenario sense) of particular units, including field commanders where applicable. When I was little, it was army men, cowboys and indians, matchbox cars. Not much has changed, I guess.

There is nothing wrong with collecting a piece/faction you just 'like', even if it is crap.
Ignoring fringe useful peices (30 Rodian Brutes, 28 Ugnaughts, 17 Mouse Droids), the most single pieces I have are:
25 YV Warrior (LotF) 24 YV Warrior (UH) 20 YV Jedi Hunter 18 YV Elite Warrior 17 YV Ossus Gaurdian 17 YV Far Outsider and 18 Shadow Stormtroopers (mostly Promos)
I just decided that I like the Vong, so I'd get a bunch. :D I know some others have done the same with Ewoks, Jawas or other groups.

A couple weeks ago my son was looking through some of our mini's and came across the 10 Rodian Brutes we have. He said "we have waaaay too many of these guys". I replied, "nope, we need a lot more".

Before customizing, I think I had about 20 Mistryl Shadow Guards, 15 Rakghouls (3 Promos) and a few trillion of anything regarding Fringe Legacy of the Force (bought the heck out of that set and now most of my customs are from that set) commons.

Awesome. Glad to hear all that from people.
Epic sounds interesting - anywhere in particular I should look for rules for that (or is it just "500 points, OMG"?)?
I'm thinking that I'll just keep on rolling with the Knights. I'm also thinking it would be easy to make some simple custom models for different ImpKnight characters, where they could still easily be used as "vanilla" Knights for skirmish games - mostly just head swaps, and pose changes.

Yeah, I think theres heaps of minis like that: classic examples being jedi knight ROTS figures and ARC CS figures. I have 20 ARCs (not including custom ones) which are never likely to be played; i have 9 jedi knight figures which used to see action, but have been replaced by JWM figures... I used to play GW40K, Grey Knights (pewter ones) no less, so I collect star wars minis mainly to play the hybrid 40K rules I use locally. This is partly why Ive decided to "purge" all other armies from my collection save for the republic, seps and fringe. 1. I dont have as much space anymore, 2. I want grand armies that have top quality figures in them. So Greatfrito, I would go with whatever you want and can afford. If you like Imperial Knights, collect them by the bucketful. If you want to make custom ones, try using other cheaper figures first, then as a last resort maybe use orphan Imperial Knights for your customs. Very very rarely do I use an unorphaned, mint condition mini (any rarity) to make a custom, and when I do... I kinda feel naughty, like Im doing something forbidden you know?
