Ok, so I have been doing quite a few battles with my self over the past few days and felt like making a Zann Consortium squad as I see the designers are pushing them as another 'Secondary' Faction with in fringe. And dang are these guys though. It may be because of the fact I played a full jedi squad vs. them but you always have to take stuff at face value, because you never know what you may face. But these guys and their mines are ridiculous. I used them with tyber (had no effect) siliri who was pretty ok and Dr. Evazan, possibly one of my favorite V-set 3 pieces. With 4 of these guys mining up jedi every turn they just demolished. With only 2 casualties on their team (totaling 25 points, one of which was zanns 10 pt reinforcement) they obliterated. None of them even had to attack, with 4 of them and 4 mines on each jedi it was a massacre. And one else try these guys out and have any thoughts on them? Let me know!

Yeah, a squad full of Defilers will do really well against a melee squad, because you'll be able to mine them as they move closer. A squad with some Accurate Shot could do a whole lot better against the Defilers, since you can kill them before they get too close to use their Mines. Another option is to run some cheap fodder pieces (Mouse Droids, Ugnaughts, Rodian Brutes, whatever) just in front of your Jedi. Since Mines still follows targeting rules, you can try to manipulate it so that the cheap fodder piece is the only target with the Jedi just a couple squares behind, moving up to slice up the Defilers.

Any kind of automatic damage like Proximity Mines is going to be pretty strong, especially against a Melee-focused squad. If you can start killing them before they get a chance to use the mines much, though, they get a lot less threatening.

I've been looking at the Defilers for a while now and I'm really excited to give them a try as soon as I can. Nice solid stats, stealth, twin, plus Prox Mines? I'm really really excited to give them a try.

Plus I'm interested in Tyber's bribery as well as being a nice backup shooter...I've had good luck with Saul as a nice Commander/third string attacker, and Tyber looks like a similar piece with much better damage output.

Can Proximity Mines stack? I mean - if I mine someone with the last activation of the round and win initiative, can I mine them again wih my first activation? So, they effectively take two lots of mines?

No, it doesn't stack. It follows the precedent of Force Corruption; you can't be Corrupted or Mined twice.

After re-reading the OP, I think you might have been playing that wrong. If you used 4 Defilers to each put mines on the same Jedi (essentially doing 80 auto damage, and 4 saves of 11 for an extra 20 damage each), then I can definitely see why you think they're so powerful in groups. It doesn't work that way, though. Proximity Mines do not stack.
