What a great weekend for SWM in Rochester, a big thanks to all those who braved the not so frosty weather in Sunny WNY. It was great seeing everyone again and to those whose couldn’t make it out this go round, there is always our Regional in April. Special thanks go out to Rob & Mike at Millennium for getting us setup on both days, as it was pretty crazy on Sunday with that Yu-Gi-Oh regional event. There were many positive comments made about the venue by a number of our participants. Also thanks go out to Urbanjedi, Engineer & thereisnotry for the additional prize support!
Hopefully everyone enjoyed the events and will visit us again.
The field saw (14) players, with the following faction mix…

Wow! I didn't realize how many OR squads there were. It's interesting to see the variations.
Oh, and just a matter of semantics, I had 4 MSDs. 16 activations is key.

First off, had a great time at the tourney(getting there was a different story). Gerry, you did a great job putting it together. I don't know who your connection in the weather department is, but thanks for keeping the snow to a minimum. Awesome hospitality, awesome sportsmanship, awesome competition! All in all an awesome weekend!
I think we should add:
BEST USE OF MOTF3: McNizzle "oops!"
I was surprised at the fact that I was the only Imp build. I really thought double bubble would have better representation than it did. Especially since, IMO, it is the only build that can really compete w/the OR Boba BH/Hoth/Zuckuss build.
Another clarification: I had 2x Nightsister on Rancor's 3x Storm Commandos 2x R7s

Malus, did you face any other OR squads? I was just curious as the how the game went if so....
And I think, if nothing else, this tourny showed that the strongest OR builds use Revan Swap. Swapping, combined with Furious Assault is just nasty.

Hinkbert, its a shame my Imperial build wasn't out there; as I'm sure it would have given the OR double bubble trouble. I was not surprised by the squad weighting but I would have thought there would have been more Republic builds out there for the 500.

Ian's sea o' Jedi was the only loss for me during the swiss. So it seems 2 bubbles would be best then. Which makes sense, otherwise Fett could easily take out Pellaeon in just 1 FA. Still, I think OR is on top, at least in the North East. I know on the podcast last week it was mentioned the Gong were strong in the South, so a 500 pt Gencon tourney should be quite interesting. And that sea of Jedi was just mean against furious assault. Very well thought out.

Hinkbert wrote:Malus, did you face any other OR squads? He played me in the 1st round, by the time I got close to "it's a trap" his storm-mandos, I was in HK's disruptive range. Chris had a great squad, well played!

First of all, apologies for not posting sooner. Work has been tough and I am still a bit under the weather. What a great tournament weekend, Gerry. Thank you so much for organizing and running it. For anyone thinking of running an event but you've never undertaken something like this, look what some planning and diligence accomplished. Gerry picked a great venue to begin with; a store with a lot of gaming space and loaded with all kinds of product. The lightsabers were a great idea, and the store credit was another. In a store like this one, store credit is an awesome idea. You bring business to the store, which is ultimately why stores have gaming areas. I am sure that you made inroads to hosting future events there. Secondly, a lot of excitement was generated over store credit. Now I realize that because they didn't have any SWM product that not everyone could appreciate that, but most of us are gamers who play other games... and that store had aisles and aisles of stuff to choose from.
Also, Gerry was prepared as an organizer and judge. We were talking about using the new tournament software but unfortunately it was not up and running yet. Gerry adapted the software available and also was prepared as a judge to field questions. Anyone who has ever judged an event will tell you that no matter how much preperation goes into an event, you'll inevitably get questions you'd never considered. Gerry had already lined up some of the seasoned players to field questions he couldn't answer. (While I'm at it, thank you specifically to Ian... Jester007 and Trevor... Thereisnotry for helping out in that regard. I have total confidence in these two guys whenever I pose a question.) Everything ran smoothly and it was a testament to the planning that went into it.
My son Kris won the 500pt tournament on Saturday. We took home one of the FX Lightsabers. It is an awesome prize, but it is kind of lost on both of us because we're not really collectors. (Yeah, I have all of the figures, but other than that and the movies, I really don't have a lot of Star Wars stuff.) That, and the fact that the Pa/Md Regional had a venue snafu this year and I have to rent a venue means that prize support assistance would be at a premium. Well, thanks to Kris winning we can now use the FX Lightsaber as part of the prize support for the May 5 Pa/Md Regional in Lemoyne Pa. I know I got hit with some regifting jokes, but that is the story behind it. I wanted to put that out there in case any of you were disappointed you didn't win the lightsaber. You have a second shot at it now.
Thanks again, Gerry... and sorry about what my lancers did to your squad lol.

Jim thank you very much for the kind words, it truly was my pleasure to hold this event and I learned a great deal about event mechanics. My thanks goes put to everyone who made the effort to attend; it was great to see everyone again, as time is a precious commodity! IMO the v-sets, new maps and customs are only the tools; it is the players and these events which really keep the game alive. There was lots of laughter, cries in anguish and general comradarie to go around. Having my house invaded on Friday night was an absolute blast, something that is now going to be an SOP for future events. A big shout out to Mrs. Russell a veteran gamer wife; who gladly supported the Friday Nite Follies, you are awesome! As luck would have it we were treated to better than average weather for February. I shared the positive comments with the folks at Millennium and we can come back anytime, so looks like the WNY regional will be held there in April. One promise I will make, is I won't refer to you as Darth_Whatley. Oops, sorry.... BTW... Lord Vader is still looking for the bottle of Bactine after the pick-up Lancer encounter. Yikes! All the best!
