I've been searching for some time now, trying to find that "squad" that is the next big thing. The next Gencon winner. It's obviously a hard road, because the V-sets have balanced it so much. I just don't want to run a typical squad at regionals that everyone is completely used to. So, I'm on a quest to find it. I know almost 99% of squads have already been thought off. But, i have a glimmer of hope to find it possible. Lol

Often what wins isn't something new, but a twist on a concept. I went 6-0 in the champs in Swiss play with a skybuck squad with Rex instead of dash. So when I had a mirror match I could kill their dash with my Rex. My strategy worked too, I beat 2 skybuck squads in Swiss.

So really it's about assessing what you think people will play and making sure you have a plan to handle it.

Now is the best time to try to break the meta - Vset 3 just launched. No one truly knows what the meta is yet. Which Vset3 pieces will provide new squad types? I think we'd at least see more discussion about if we got the new pieces in the database/squadbuilder.

I also know map choice also plays a role in how well a squad does for sure. So to find a great squad on a perfectly suited map is key. So i've been testing this idea as well. And Weeks, I definitely see what you mean. But, it is still in the same sense a very close squad. Obviously your solution is the best and fits with most situations, as even with new pieces the meta doesn't change a whole lot. But, I'm still trying to find that squad that people may underestimate at first, but becomes a powerhouse.

Use Nien Nunb. You'll be underestimated for sure and then you can surprise the opponent with how good the rest of the squad is.
