I originally picked up the game to use for my Saga RPG. I have been a star wars story teller since I was 16 and ran a knights of the old republic game on and off that spanned up 10 years in real life, until my buddy's bachelor party last year when he insisted that I run the final chapter, in which the party became the crew that went with Bastilla Shan as her squad that defeated Revan. I'm about to run another saga game, and still use saga edition as my excuse for continually investing in SWM.
On top of that, I'm a huge fan of strategy games. Final Fantasy Tactics is probably the best video game i've ever played, and this game falls very close to that same style.
I don't honestly play much any more... its been months, and even before the last of my friends dropped out, i rarely got a chance to play. Even when I first got into the game during Alliance and Empires, the majority of my games had to be on vassal. St. Louis is just not a great place for SWM.

A lot of reasons, really.
-It's Star Wars! I've loved Star Wars since I was really little; basically I can't remember NOT loving Star Wars. I think we can basically all relate to that love, so I won't go into a story about it, but suffice it to say: Star Wars is awesome, and anything branded with Star Wars will get at least a pretty close look from me.
-It's strategic. I really like friendly competition. Competition really just gives me a problem to solve: I've got this squad, he's got that squad, now how am I going to beat him in the most effective way possible? I don't like games that aren't deep enough, where you just kind of cobble together a strategy and throw it at the wall to see what sticks. This game can have very deep strategy, and I think that's pushed by the competitive aspect. If it weren't a competitive game, it would just be me putting cool figures next to your cool figures and then we roll dice to see who rolls dice the best.
-My friends play. This one is kind of weird, because most of my friends that play became my friends BECAUSE we both play. Maybe this point is more just "Cool people play this". A lot of the people I met through playing this are now very good friends, and much more than my SWM buddies. The fact that I have lots of other people to play with or talk with about the game really does drive my enjoyment of it.
-It's Star Wars. I mean, come on.

I am a late arrival to the SWM community (circa late 2010), I picked the game because it keeps the brain sharp and as you have all said b4 its Star Wars. Since I was taken to the theatrical premier in 1977 as a kid, I've been a fan. To be honest, I have had more fun with this game then with any other RPG or strategy game and I've been at this since the early eighties. We have a excellent community supporting this game and I have been fortunate to meet many great people by heading out to events in the NE region. Hope to meet more of you during the regional season!

As many others have said, it's a strategic, fun game, plus it's freaking STAR WARS! Also, since I got back into the game in the fall of last year I've met a lot of cool people. I remember when I first got into the game (back when RotS came out) a lot of the people I played at tournys were either very annoying or not good at the game. Come to think of it, there were quite a few people who were both. That's why I like to play the game now, against the people I play against. As Echo said, it's a strategic game and you're ultimately out to solve a problem: how to make your squad beat the other squad. That's the point, problem solving, and complaining isn't going to do anything solving a problem. That's why I like the game, every time is a new problem to solve. Plus squad building is a good time.

1. The "fun factor" of Star Wars Miniatures is the simplicity of the game. It's basically: -take turns -move and shoot -my attack value beats your defense The rules are so intuitive, it is almost like playing a table top video game. So, you quickly get passed the "rule book", and focus on strategy and ideas. (Ok, there are exceptions like JarJar but that is beside the point...). Also, new abilities generally enrich that game, instead of hampering it down. So, your always wondering "what will they think of next", not " oh crap, more rules to memorize". 2. The Social aspect: Hanging out. Talking about strategies. Dragon-con, Gencon, Regional Season. Who has the latest and great squad? Who is the underdog? What will dominate this year. etc.etc... 3. It's freakin' Star Wars. Yeah, I'll be playing this game when I am like 80 years old in the Nursing Home...Maybe we can all stay at the same one so we can have tourneys every weekend.
