I wanted to keep this discussion seperate from the vset overload idea
Do we really need loads of new types of common/uncoms ??
could we just have 60 new uniques (satify every ones need for missing characters)
Just use them to boost the existing coms that we dont already use ?

Meh, the generics are the biggest strength of this game.
On a design level, it's where you can get real creative and flesh out factions and create subthemes. I know people tend to prefer uniques, but the generics can be just as gamechanging in a squad.

As much as I like Uniques, nons are crucial to the health of the game. All Unique is what the Epic sets are for, aren't they?

I haven't done any in a while, but I am a big fan of the booster drafts, and you should have a normal mix of uniques/nonuniques for that. I wouldn't mind seeing the mini-sets be all-unique, though, if that's what people want. You could even shift to a 40-piece set plus 2 separate mini-sets of uniques. But, yes, we do need more commons/uncommons in general, and especially so in the base sets.

the non-u characters are where we can add utility to the game. Look at something like the squib trader. I guess we could have made him one of the unique squibs but then he probably would have to cost more and there is always the thought that you might want to play 2 of them in a squad. So he wouldn't work as well as if we made him a non-u like we did.

Equally .... a new unique that gave an existing NON.. the extra abilities that a squib has would have achieved the same thing.

Try to play this game with only just uniques (no r7, mouse, uggies and other very useful utilies...) I wish U best of luck.
But seriously, all of us wait for new uniques which haven't been released yet (or a new version)- the way I see it- we wait long enough, we get it no problem. This game is so much fun, because sometimes non-uniques in right squads can be more dangerous than uniques, which is ALWAYS fun.
My advice: just sit tight and wait for the unique U want :)

We wouldn't need loads of "new" commons/uncommons in a set but I believe they are essential to a "sets" balance. You can make squads that are nothing but uniques but there are a lot more fun, even if not extremely competitive, squads that are mostly comprised of non-uniques.

I still think there needs to be non-unique characters.
