Hi all,

me and a couple of friends have gotten into SWM recently and managed to pick up a lot of ~700 Minis consisting of Commons und Uncommons from pretty much all sets and factions. Having now found the excellent squad database here, we thought it'd be great getting some inspiration from it, but unfortunately it's not possible to set a filter to exclude squads containing rare and very rare minis. Are there even more than a handful of squads of that type out there? Any fun suggestions for squads which would work?

Hello! Welcome to the forums, it's cool to have new players.

I'd hazard a guess that the vast majority of squads contain rares or very rares. If you don't have any, one option is to use the recent fan-created v-sets (which from my perspective as a player, are very good) for the Unique characters to augment your commons and uncommons.

For example, you could use Darth Vader, Agent of Evil (http://www.bloomilk.com/Character/1051/darth-vader--agent-of-evil) to buff up your Stormtroopers. You can download the Renegades and Rogues v-set pdf, which this Vader is taken from, here: http://www.swmgamers.com/download.php?view.30

Thanks for the suggestions, for now we want to stick with what we have though and not invest more money. We'd obviously need proxy minis in order to use fan-made cards and we'd rather stick to official minis.
We were just hoping to get some squad suggestions from the database. I guess we'll have to go through them and look for some where it would work to replace the R and VR.

Welcome to BlooMilk! Here's a quick list of Unique v-set minis that use proxies that are C/UC:

The Revanchist
Darth Bandon
Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala on Reek
OOM-9
Poggle the Lesser
Sora Bulq
Lieutenant Page
Wedge's Snowspeeder
Joruus C'Baoth
Rukh
Atris
Niles Ferrier
Salacious Crumb
Nen Yim
Shedao Shai

And that's just the first set, Destiny of the Force! They're tournament-legal too. They will even be used at GenCon, the biggest minis tournament of the year ThumpUp

In the search function you can exclude certain characters. Once you pick a faction, each faction has a few "staples" like Mas Amedda or Thrawn. If you exclude the staples, you can eliminate a bunch of squads that wouldn't work for your purposes. It doesn't get to only-C and UC, but it would eliminate a bunch of them at once.

I'd suggest at tourneys playing Old Republic. Most of the factions good pieces are either V-Set and can be proxied by anything, or nonunique like the Jedi Battlemaster.

Sith is another good option for the same reasons. You'll only need minimal things like R7's, Uggies, and mouse droids from the wizards stuff to make some good squads.

Thanks for your advice guys! That list is great, Darth O, will go through the other V-Sets as well.

Are you from New Zealand or Australia? I'm guessing you are by the times that you're posting at, but I might be wrong. If you're from New Zealand, there's a group of us down in Wellington and in the Taranaki, while there are a bunch of Australians too.

Cool! I think there is an active German play scene too, but I don't know how much they post on Bloomilk. There is a big French/German championship sometime in the second half of the year.

Yep, I know. I'm already on the German forums and will probably take part in the German championship in Cologne sometime in August.

The two factions that have done the best without R/VRs (or Uniques in most cases) were the Vong and Mandalorians.

@Sithborg

Do you have any links to support that, i.e. squads that were played?
