is it true that a melee attack is only possible if their card says "Melee Attack?" So even if Boba Fett is adjacent to a Imperial Knight and shoots them, his attack doesn't count as a melee attack? Therefore the attacker couldn't use Lightsaber Block, but they could use Deflect, Reflect, or Defense (if they had it)? http://www.bloomilk.com/forums/default.aspx?g=posts&t=7220

Correct, in most cases it is determined whether or not a character has Melee Attack or not. There are a few abilities that mess with that, however.

Most notoriously, the Lightsaber special ability does NOT cause the character to use melee attack. So to prevent damage from an adjacent Mara Jade, Jedi you have to use LS Deflect, Reflect, Defense. LS Block and Parry do not work. And neither does Djem So or LS Riposte.

I was so annoyed the first time I played against Mara Jade, when I had a piece with Djem So. I was all like, Djem So! But everyone was like, no, you can't.
