Good to see additional fighters out so soon. Again, not entirely sold on the price point or system.

The cards and figures look stunning,
I would really only be interested in the figures though, and 1 per booster seems sad to me.
For that price, I could save up and buy the actual SSB minis, or head to ebay and pick up a swarm of played condition Galoob vehicles...

Yes quite unusual to see them get product to market this soon, this plus the cost of the models has been my 1&1A beef with them. Although, the quality of their models is exceptional IMO and has been worth the wait. Hopefully the rules will follow along the same vein as WoW.

Looks like V-set minis.
You buy an expansion pack that contains 1 ship and comes with a variety of character cards to swap 'who/what' that ship is.
The base/starter set looks like you get 2 ties 1 xwing.
Luke Skywalker card
rookie rebel pilot card,
'named' tie pilot card x2
rookie tie pilot x 2

Could be good!
Not sure how big it is, nothing 2do with scale on it. Reckon you wont be able to custom the old star ship battles to this.

Oh crap its all for $30 or 25ish quid.

I think another poster said this

Nice idea, but too costly! If only Wizards could have gotten it done right with their starship minis. It would have been fun with capital ships and different commander effects.

I'm really excited about this. I certainly don't understand the complaint that it's too expensive; you don't need many fighters to play, and one of the main things you're getting from expansions are different cards to play with, not additional fighters. This is definitely a product of the big-box board game realm, where you pretty much always pay at least $60-$100 for a base game. Most people on the big board game sites are praising $30 for the starter as being cheap.

I think it really depends on the size of the minis. If they are somewhat close to the Titanium series ships, then it is a pretty good deal. The size of SSB, not so much.

I think we need to see the rules before getting into how expensive it will be. If it supports multiple fighters (which the starter heavily suggests, with it's 2 to 1 contents), then I imagine people will want a wide variety.

I think what most folks don't realize is the quality of these models. The WoW biplanes are beautiful pieces and for a beer and zels game it is a lot of fun, I cannot wait to get me some of deez in June. Heck if I'm still around in August, perhaps at GenCon we should organize something?

@CerousMutor,
Yeah... Akbar could maybe have sold this to me, but by the time any of this stuff makes its way downunder (2-3 years from releasedate...) and you factor in the retail markup,... a Aussie/NewZealish gamer is looking at $60-70AUD minimum for 3 models and some cards. Id expect it to retail for about $80-110 out here... and if you think shipping from manufacturer would be cheaper, it aint as 1. they wont ship certain things to non retailers, 2. they dont ship certain items to southern hemisphere and 3. by the time you add postage tax and trade tariffs its insanely not cheap vs. the fun had BigGrin

All this said, the detail is definitely there in these figures. And shapeways has "not-starwars" fighters which may/maynot be in scale... could be a fun rules system too, so i might take a bit of Sithborg's advice and wait and see on the rules system BigGrin
In the meantime, im playing games with GOBS.3 system (a free tabletop miniatures game engine, with vectors and everything!)

You can preorder for only $26 at miniaturemarket.com (that's about the cost of one Bounty Hunter Booster or most SWM starters... seems very reasonable to me for a base game). And, the expansions are $9.99 or something like that. I preordered $100 worth to get free shipping. Looking forward to giving it a try.

I think that might be one of the things that's bugging people: the number of fighters. I imagine when most people envision a starfighter battle in the Star Wars setting they're probably thinking of a whole horde of fighters zooming in at each other, not just a couple. Still they do look darn neat. I haven't decided if I'm getting some of these or not, but I can't help drooling at the thought of a Millennium Falcon model. Hmmm.

@Rundummy & Tonythetoyman,
Thanks for the heads up! Count me in then!!!
And in the meantime, Ive been scouring the local area for Galoob...
GFC part II has meant LOADS of garage sales locally. The show American Pickers has taught myself (and every other shmoe who watched it) how to bargain hunt.
That said, Ive been to 20 yard sales in the past 2-3 months, and without fail there's always been some type of galoob on offer.

The fighters are around the same scale as the Galoob ones, which is handy!

This will be available at Gencon. Though how many will be able to get some for the tournament Thur is another question.

But the rules should be up by August, to get a better feel for the game. I know the rules were why I bought Fleet Captains.
