When do you follow the rules of targeting? I know that line of sight doesn't require it, but what about: sight, range, and other force powers and abilities? Does lightsaber throw have to be against an adjacent enemy if there is one? In the rulebook, it says;

target: An enemy character chosen for an attack, special ability, or force power. Line of sight and cover are determined by drawing lines to a target's space. A square itself can't be a target.

Pretty much everything that produces an attack or when you have to choose 1 enemy targets, thus follows the targetting rules. There are very few exceptions, Lightsaber Sweep and Strafe Attack. Abilities that affect an area, like Repulse, do not target.

A good rule of thumb is that if the definition mentions the word target at all (unless it's saying it doesn't target), it uses targeting rules.

ThumbsUp real good advice, just read the card, if it mentions the word target, then follow targeting rules

Thanks for the quick replies!
But do you have to use targeting rules for "sight" or "line of sight"?

Yes, "sight" is referring to range, as compared to abilities that are limited to 6 squares or some other distance.
Sight is any distance, as long as you can draw LOS to the target.

So the people responding to GM yoda are wrong? They say that you can target someone way in the back without worrying about targeting.

Lightsaber Throw 3 uses a modified version of the targetting rules. The "ignoring cover" part of the ability means you ignore the effect of cover when you determine who you can target.

I was confused a first read.

"Target" and "Targeting"(a Specail Ability) mean two different things.Confused
