As a keen reader of the squad builder, I keep seeing the same pieces used all the time. This is my list of pieces that seem to be over-rated by newer and less serious players. Here are my five pieces that I see all the time:
Lobot, Computer Liaison Officer - he does have his uses in Reserves squads, but Universe Lobot is a better option 95% of the time. I think sometimes people don't understand the difference between Reinforcements and Reserves, and think that Lobot CLO is an upgraded version.
Antarian Ranger - they're OK, but they pop up in Old Republic and Republic squads all the time.
Rodian Trader - people have been complaining how the Squib Trader is too slow, but at least it gives out useful abilities.
Bacta Tank - healing isn't an effective strategy for most squads.
Rebel Commando Strike Leader - super-stealth can be useful, but it doesn't seem worth dropping 18 points on this guy on the off-chance the other team has accurate shooters, especially when there are stealth counters out there.
Any others?

Yeah, that's one thing I've tried to stress on squads I've reviewed. Super Stealth or Evade/Shields, not both. The cost does not justify the expense.
The Rodian, I've just come to expect that there are different styles of play. One where healing is powerful enough to justify.
Gha Nackt used to be. The Mouse Drop was actually barely worth it in some of those squads.

Any others? For the longest time I prefered Lobot CLO to Universe Lobot because I didn't understand the usefulness of Reserves vs Reinforcments, and until the R7s came out he was cheap Override. Now, I never use him and have about 4 of them just sitting there (thanks $5 Target boosters...) Antarian Ranger: ESPECIALLY in the NR and OR they were the best non-unique shooters they had for a long time (I never used them in Republic as I always preferred Clones.) But +11 attack and 19 Defense near Force Users+Stealth is pretty useful, they were decent, fairly cheap upgradable shooters. NOW, there are probably better options in each faction but I still think they are solid. And they are cool! With their power drills and ball caps and leather jackets. But I agree, those pieces tend to be overrated by newer players.

I guess Rieekan means that the Rebel Commando Strike Leader is mostly superfluous - he's cheaper, and it's better in most squads to give everyone mobile and evade, rather than just give some of your squad super-stealth. If you want to go with healing, Dr. Evazan, Galactic Criminal costs the same as a Rodian Trader and two three point pieces. He does carry of course carry some risks, but he brings a lot more to the table.

R2-D2, astro droid, mice, uggies, and definitely lobot. I use these a lot, but I have to admit that they are really common in a lot of squads. I have trouble making a squad without these.

In some squads, Mas Amedda. If you don't have many CEs, you can save some points and gain an activation or 2 by dropping him for mice. Of course, in most cases he's an auto-add.

I have actually seen it a few times now where a player will include mas then build a squad without range limited CE's. That is more a force of habbit than anything else though (doombot, mas, squad is usually the build order for a republic squad )
