Soresu Style Mastery, I assume.

As per the errata to the glossary, the current ruling is that Soresu Style Master is triggered against all attacks. There was an official play errata, that is no longer in effect.

Can I ask what the errata was?

When SSM first came out in the Clone Wars starter set, the card text for SSM on GOWK said it worked for all attacks. The glossary, however, said it only worked on melee attacks. So following proper rules etiqutte, the glossary overrides the card text. That was until the WOTC designers stepped in and said the glossary definition was suppose to be that of the card. That was the first change that occurred.

Later, due to game balace issues or because all that was showing up to tournaments were GOWK and anti-GOWK (take your pick), WOTC banned GOWK from official tournament play.

Later WOTC changed SSM to work only against non-melee and allowed GOWK to be used again.

Then, shortly before or after Darth Zahnna was released (cant remember exactly when, sorry), the Floor Rules designers made the change for SSM to work against all attacks again.

I am not gon.a debate the pros/cons of this decision. I just wanted to lay out the history of SSM.

Sincerely,
Jester007

It is important to note that the "Melee only" was only for Official Play. The errata to the Clone Wars Rulebook was never taken away. The change to the floor rules happenned after Zannah, as I remember the debate when it came up with what to put on her card for SSM.

Thanks jester, I have one more question, what made them want to release him without any constraints after zannah was released?

If you are referring to the design committee removing the melee restriction, it was a lot of things. For one, there were some that thought it should have never changed (ie WOTC should have just left it all attacks instead of issuing its errata way back when). 2nd, people thought (correctly) that damage output was much more balanced across factions. By that I mean that when clone wars came out only 1 or 2 factions had a reliable way to do 30 damage per attack on more than 1 or 2 attacks. Now, pretty much every faction has that with the addition of many WOTC pieces (Whorm, General Skywalker, etc). This means that now GOWK doesn't need to take nearly as many hits to get through before death. There was a call to playtest this before the decision to remove the errata and most folks that tested him out said that the change didn't really change the game only made GOWK playable instead of relegated to the black box of never see play.

The pairing of GOWK and Mace has since become a very strong squad which has brought GOWK and those discussions back to the forefront.
