hey guys, so my friends and i have been playing saga edition and recently bought a bunch of mini's for the RPG and decided to play a few rounds...

something we can't figure out is when you use a force attack (force push and force lightening specifically) do you still make your attack roll, or does the force attack auto hit? and if said power just hits can characters with evade or other such abilities avoid the damage?

Force Powers automatically do damage under most circumstances - you don't need to roll a dice, and evade doesn't help against them. You also have to watch that most Force Powers, including Force Push and Force Lightning, use targeting rules, so you have to select a legal target for your force power.

It says in the FAQ here: http://www.swmresources.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=230:star-wars-miniatures-complete-faq&catid=9&Itemid=104
Quote:

Q: Can you clarify the use of Force powers by Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, and others? Are the use of Force Lightning and Force Grip automatically successful, or do the normal rules or attack and defense values apply?

A: Unless the Force power says that you make an attack or that the target gets a save, the Force power (or other special ability) is automatically successful. Thus, both Force Lightning and Force Grip do not require an attack, and neither allows a save.

There are things that can stop Force Powers, like Force Absorb/Defense (another force power) and Force Immunity, but most defensive abilities don't work against them. Some special abilities like Shields (When this character takes damage, it reduces the damage dealt by 10 with a save of 11) can potentially limit the damage you take from a force power.

Cool - the key is that the definition of Evade says: "When hit by an ATTACK" - a force power isn't an attack. I'm sure Sithborg, the board's rules guru, will be along sometime to clarify further.

It's cool that you guys have started playing - have fun!

well, while i have you're attention then (hahaha) if the reverse- if a force use has force defense, can they use it to block multiple attacks? IE, Darth Vader Jedi Hunter gets shot by Bith BSV and deflects, then for twin attack hes shot again, can he deflect both? If so, then can he deflect multiple shots from different characters... so in same phase as bith BSV the Rodian BSV uses double shot and shoots twice...

we played it like this, you can use force once in a turn, so he was able to deflect bith's first and not second, then on rodians turn he was able to deflect first and not second...

thanks again bud!

Force Defense and Absorb work only on a singular Force Power

Lightsaber Deflect, Block, Reflect, and Defense work only on a singular attack.

In your scenario, Vader would only be able to deflect two attacks in a turn if he was granted the ability to spend Force Points more than once per turn (e.g. under the effects of Force Spirit).

Palpatine has a Commander Effect which allows people to spend his Force Points, not use the powers listed on his card. You still can't spend Force Points more than once per turn unless you have a power that says you can (such as Master of the Force)

It's a bit hard to creatively interpret that though when the card explicitly states that you can't do it.
