The real question is how guilty I should feel for going to see Ep VII after railing on disney movies for so many years. I'd like to say that I would boycott it out of principle, but let's get real.

As long as George is kept away from it and a decent story is intelligently crafted it could be the best Star Wars movie we've seen in 30 years!

He's still a creative consultant, which means only as much as Disney wants it. Don't begrudge him the extra $2 billion cash for retirement though.

The Walt Disney Company today announced that it has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. in a stock and cash transaction valued at $4.05 billion, with Disney paying "approximately half of the consideration in cash and issuing approximately 40 million shares at closing." Press release announcing the deal here. Here's a list of all the media Disney already owns: ABC; Pixar; Marvel; as well as Hollywood, Mammoth and Buena Vista Records, just for a start.
So here's one interesting snip: "Our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years."

I don't know how to feel about this. Hopefully they treat it like Marvel.
If they make a good Thrawn Trilogy set of films, I'll love them forever.

Since Hollywood is hellbent on rebooting every franchise ever conceived, perhaps Disney will redo E1-3. One can only hope.

I'm actually kind of optimistic. Okay, good chance the EU that I love is gone. Okay. But I think about Episode 7. Lucas is no longer directing. His role as "creative consultant" probably has very little power. Now, add in new blood, some who are passionate about Star Wars. We are not gong to see the prequels repeated. Lucas did not age well as a director. I enjoyed the prequels, but with new blood, I think these new Star Wars movies have the potential to be great movies.
I'm concerned about Disney pumping them out, but I am cautiously optimistic, as the franchise is now out of Lucas's control, it has the potential to be expanded.

I really can't get mad at Lucas for "ruining" Star Wars as some see it, just because the prequels are not the best thing ever. If Star Wars is better without Lucas in what way is it exactly "better?" Could Lucas have done "better" with 1-3? Depends on how you define "better." I don't see why Lucas should have been expected to tell the story in any way OTHER than the way he wanted to tell it.

We must remember that more Star Wars is good for all fans.
As long as Lucas lives, he will be involved in the galaxy far, far, away that he created. this is as it should be
I'll defiantly be willing to see Mickey and Donald dressed as Han and Chewie, if it means we get more Star Wars as long as Disney owns it.

If Lucas is not involved, it is going to be an epic fail. Star Wars is George Lucas. Some may say he totally controlled but he has a right to, he created it. I have mixed feelings. Yeah for another Star Wars movie, but is it going to be a total flop. I mean "Disney presents Star Wars, Episode VII" just really doesn't ring. I like star wars where Lucas left it. It gives you a basis, but doesn't necessarily require you to go exactly as depicted. I just afraid another episode, and maybe more after that, will make it so it is only one dimensional. Also, if they don't use the original actors, I'm going to be a little ticked, but that would also cost them a ton of money. The best thing Disney can do to keep a large fan base is to keep the master of it all, George Lucas, for recommendations and advice.
