So far, I have enjoyed the game, though I do agree that it seems expensive. Not much more expensive than SWM, though, if not cheaper.
From what I have played, it is largely strategy, probably even more than SWM. The die in the game are not game-changing, but can also change the course of a game. That is, getting bad roles repeatedly, while annoying, won't ruin a good player; on the other hand, good roles, while extremely helpful, won't ruin a good opponent either.
The strategy of the game is mainly based on positioning and planning your opponent's moves. If you can figure out where your opponent will go, you can put yourself in a good position.
All in all, I like the game. As of yet, it seems to be cheaper to me than SWM. It's strategy is more in-depth, and more down my lane. Rolls impact the game quite a bit, but won't destroy a good player. The point limits need to be carefully chosen, however, or else one side will be seriously disadvantaged.
I would buy more of the really well painted figures, but, unfortunately, I'm a broke teenager.

I'm into X-Wing and loving it too. Great potential and everything that Starship Battles wasn't.

I played it once. Pretty good game - I'm just not as interested in dogfighting as I am in the character-level skirmish game.

It seems like a really cool game, and I would like to see them integrated into a swm campaign, where there are land battles, and dogfights.
