Good Morning Er’body! So I guess I should kind of tell you all where I’m at with Star Wars Maps. The New map did ok, but there is no way I am going to be able to move the 800 or so copies I still have left. It’s really got me thinking about the logistics of a new map. To be honest, I’ve been trying to faze this aspect of my life out slowly but I keep getting drawn back in for one reason or another. So here’s what I have: I have a few maps completed and ready to print, I’ve got 2 more maps That I’m under contract to finish as kick starter rewards, totaling 6 new maps. Depending on What Josh has lying around we might be able to do 2 more maps on top of that. I just don’t have it in me to handle the shipping and the money and storage of all this stuff. On top of that, as stated earlier, I really am trying to phase maps and gaming out of my life and start concentrating on other aspects of my life. If the sales were good for maps like they were 2 or 3 years ago, it might be worth the effort, but as it stands right now, gaming and maps aren’t a passion for me anymore. Additionally, the logistics behind it have become more of a hindrance on me and my wife then they’ve become a benefit. I know of a few people who have asked to get involved in those aspects of the business, and I think I am ready to take them up on the offer, if they want. So I think between the 4 or 5 people involved, God willing, we should be able to put out Map Pack 5. And I know I’ve said it before, and I don’t want to say never again, but I have to make other things a priority, I really don’t have a choice. So this is going to have to be it for me for a long time. My hope is that someone out there, (perhaps someone I know, who recently bought software to make maps) will take the time to become the New Jedicartographer. Anyway I’ve got like 800 copies of Anchorhead left and I really am at a loss as to what to do with them, and I’m willing to sell them at a really low cost per copy, plus shipping to anyone who thinks they can turn it into a good investment. I believe with some time and motivation and a little ingenuity, it could be the start of something good for someone. With all that said, Josh and I have put so much effort into creating Adventurers Atlas, we have an ever growing list of fans on Facebook, I have a blog that sees alot of traffic, and We still have alot of hard earned business connections. If anyone was to take it over I would be entrusting ALOT to them and they would have to be willing to pursue more that just Star Wars Miniatures.

I think you guys are missing Matt's point. He is looking for someone to run the entire business (not just buy a map pack).
I'm not that person.

I'm sorry to see you go, JC. You've had as much a hand in keeping the game alive as anyone else. FWIW I'm completely willing to pick up a copy of MP5 as well.

I'm not that person. No I understood that, but I was offering the only help I can really offer with my skill set which is purchasing something.

I am confident that Map Pack 5 will, at the very least have the funds to go into production, provided I can find someone willing to handle the logistics. I wouldn'nt worry so much about that. The trick is finding someeone to handle all of that. Honestly I'm not convinced this game needs more maps at this point. Think about it. How many maps on the restricted list do you even see at any events? People have there set maps for their set squads and it's part of the game now. New maps aren't getting used. Honestly even as I am writing this, and just given the over inactivity of the community when it comes to maps lately, I really honestly don't think its' worth it to go forward. I hate to be the one to say it, but from a numbers point of view on my end, this game has kind of dwindled to the point of no return. The ONLY reason I was able to cover the cost of printing was because Chris West in the 11th hour helped out with getting some of his fanbase to come over and make pledges. I haven't even played a game of SW minis in at least a year and half. Even just the overall lukewarm activity in this particular thread in the forum is very telling to me. growing a "dead" game to new people is a hard sell, and the majority of the established player/consumer community seems to have moved on. honestly heroclix isn't going to be much better for me either :-/ lol, I guess what I'm really trying to say is if the whole communtiy can't get together and give this game the shot in the arm it needs, then It doesn't really make much sense for me to keep going forward. Obviously making great maps isn't enough to keep people interested. I thought putting out a great project would atleast keep a good chunk of people engaged and playing, but the new maps aren't selling, and they aren't even really getting used at the big events anyway. After 24 hours I'm really confused about where I want to go. My biggest source of confusion is that my FB page keeps growing and I don't want to lose that,

I'd buy a MP5, but at the rate we play minis (2 or 3 games per week), I'd be more excited about it later. On most of the maps I have, we haven't played more than a couple of games.
I think the biggest shot in the arm could come from a new boardgame on the same maps. All these maps that come out look great, and they have great variety. Some other game that uses the same map style (same grid size, era, and terrain markings) would obviously give them a new use. And I don't even mean another skirmish game. Some euro-style game that happens to use the same map style. If a game like that caught on, there'd be plenty of demand for more maps. (Power Grid, 18XX, and Ticket to Ride are a few examples where the basic game was a hit and now there are tons of variations/maps.) Of course, designing a great boardgame is no easy feat. Restricting to a pre-determined map format would make it even harder. But there are boardgame design websites where these things are discussed. (Game design, that is. Not reusing SWM maps.)

2 or 3 games a week? And you think that's slow?

I hate to see you go, JC. However, when a hobby becomes far more labor than love, it is time to put things aside. I wish you and your family the best. Focus on the new things in your life and embrace that you helped grow the game with your talent. No one will forget that.

I'll still be around . I love seeing what characters the Vset team comes up with, and I love looking at the customs. I really feel like I've learned enough and created a large enough object bank, that someeone with a working knowledge of Paint shop or photoshop can create some decent maps. I think there are people here now willing to take that on, and I know that Josh(AG7) will probably be happy to create new mpas at a pretty decent fee as well. So anyway, I'm going into the recording studio this summer, with my old band from the 90s. might be a kickstarter out for that pretty soon so maybe keep an eye out.

Hey Matt, I know you have a good one, or two coming ;) and while I don't have the skill or expertise to create maps, yet... It is something I would love to get into and learn more about. Anyways if a map pack came out I would definitely pick up 2-3 sets of it for our group. Kickstarter is a great way to finish out am epic career in the map industry and you can always go George Lucas and keep a creative hand in the business after. Anyways I'll be in touch...
