I know there have been some variant hex based maps around. Has anyone played this on a hex? Heroscape tiles are just a little too small, but thinking even Hexon Tiles from Kallistra would be elegant. Seems basic geometry might lend itself better to 3/4 play.
I play DDM on hexes and much prefer it. But then, that is more skirm and less board game proper, than DB.
But hexes will throw a big wrench into game mechanics and I was wondering what some of the more experience players who've tired it, thought of it. ] ] Btw, newbie to this game here and digging the crap out of it!
Cheers! Rob

Personally, it all comes down to how you count range and movement. A lot of things are balanced toward the diagonal = 2, or diagonal movement is doubled.

Have you tried it then, what do you think?

You know I've never tried this, but I've always wondered it myself. It would definitely change the at some things work (range 6 abilities would cover a LOT more area!), but I think it's worth trying for just a fun house rule. I don't own any hex maps that would be good, but if anyone does and would be able to try it I would love to see how it goes.

Color me sheepish, but I dropped this post in the wrong forum. Game in question was Dreamblade, not SWM. Go figure.
Been playing both of late. Ironically though, when it comes to running SWM on a hex based map, that is exactly what we do. I run some maps as well, but the HS tiles are pretty nice to play both SWM and DDM on. Yeah, range is off unless you make a really big board, and you've got 6 fronts per tile instead of four. But you get terrain of a 3D nature and relief bonuses and it just looks cool.
Anyway, my bad. Sorry.

Yes, that is really cool. We have a lot of Heroscape pieces so it's worth looking into. My thought is that it would probably be simplest to just use the basic Heroscape movement and LOS/Targetting rules, because they're native to the terrain concept.
My boys and I will have a lot of fun with this the next time we play a "Star Wars Minis Tournament"! Yes, that's the name that my kids came up with, because they're always excited to hear about how I did at my most recent tourney. They don't understand that a "tournament" is actually several games against several different players, but it's all good. :)
