Once a year, in Lower Hutt New Zealand, we have a tournament where we play our games over a period of time (we began in early November and hopefully we wrap it up before the end of the year). As well as being able to play your games over a period of time, the other big talking point for this tournament is that you can use a different squad for each game. It leads to some fun meta-gaming predicting what your opponent will run, and you can bring some wacky squads that you probably wouldn't bring to a multi-round tournament, but which you think will work fine for a one-off game.
I enjoy seeing what squads other playgroups are using, so I figured you guys might want to see the squads we're playing. These are the results from the first round. We have a group of eight serious competitive players in Lower Hutt, and we had a qualifying tournament to see which of the more casual players joined us for the pool round; picking a different squad for each game is super fun, but it can be hard on players with smaller collections who always run the same faction. We ended up with two groups of five, who all played each other, with the 3 top qualifiers from each group going through to the next round.

The Top 6 Playoffs for the Hutt Regional are now complete. The top 6 players from round 1 went through to round 2, but SavageRancor pulled out, leaving only five players to contest the spots in the semi-finals. Results from round 2 were:

Sharron (Red Squadron Aces, Luke Rebel Commando) bt Mike Moore Smuggler (Mara JM, Lowbacca, Ganner, Lobot, Leia, Luke FS) 213-57 on Cantina.
TheHutts (Bastila, Satele, IG-86s, Bao Dur) bt Ian (Mace, Anakin Chosen One, Atin, Amidala) 200-78 on Peaceful City.
Sharron (Anakin Chosen One, new Obi, Qui-Gon Force Spirit, Tarpals, Evazan) trounced TheHutts (Corran JM, R3PO, Dash, Jagged) 233-37 on Rhen Var.
Mike Moore Smuggler (grievous, lancer, sidious, poggle bombs) bt Dr Daman (new Yoda, Levi-Luke, new han [swapped in hsta], new leia and crix) 200-32 on Rancor Pit.
So that left the points table (including games carried through from the previous round) as:
Sharron: 10 points, (10gp, 4-0)
TheHutts: 8 points, (8gp, 3-1)
Mike Moore Smuggler: 7 points, (7gp, 2-2)
Dr Daman: 3 points, (3 gp, 1-3)
Ian: 0 points, (0 gp, 0-4)
So Sharron will play Dr Daman in one semi-final, and TheHutts plays Mike Moore Smuggler in the other.
There were a few interesting squads around, but the one Sharron beat me with (Anakin Chosen One, Obi-Wan Jedi Negotiator, Qui-Gon Force Spirit, Tarpals, Dr Evazan Galactic Criminal) is deceptively strong. It doesn't look that intimidating on paper, but it was nasty in the game. I thought at the start of the game that it would be an easy win for me since I had Dodonna and Disruptive, but it wasn't - Obi-Wan is tougher than GOWK to bring down with Qui-Gon FS on him (he has more starting force points), and Evazan can drop 60 auto-damage on something, Qui-Gon can auto-win initiative against most squads, and Evazan can drop another 60 damage. Anakin is also a sturdy fighter, with options like Bodyguard and Dark Temptation. Sharron won his first 15 games in a row with it practising - I'm sure it does have its weak spots, but it's tougher than it looks at first glance.

And the Hutt Regional for 2012 is now finished, with the semi-finals and the final being completed:
Semi-Final 1: Sharron (Red Squadron Aces) beat Dr Daman (Storm Commandos) ~170-~90 on Asteroid Base
Semi-Final 2: Mike Moore Smuggler (Bastila/Satele/Carth/Jaq) bt TheHutts (Thrawn, Pallaeon, Arica, Klat Assassins) 205-193 on Ravaged Base
So that left Sharron and Mike Moore Smuggler as the finalists (the opposite of last year's final between Dr Daman and TheHutts).
Final: Mike Moore Smuggler (Lancer, Grievous Hero of Hypori, Poggle Bombs) bt Sharron (Anakin Chosen One, new Obi, Qui-Gon Force Spirit, Tarpals, Evazan) 220-54 on Rancor Pit.
The win takes Mike to his first ever title after a couple of years of strong showings in our group, and up to number one of the World Rankings (http://swm.shift.net.nz/). Good work Mike!
