Would anyone put in the position of having their opponent drop realistically refuse a free pass into the finals or next round?

I have mixed fillings about this one. on one hand yes it would be great to get a free pass to the finals but on the other if I traveled any distance to attend this regional then I came to play and would hate to have a bye for my second to last round, and because of that I think I would enjoy to have the 5th or 9th person be bumped in order to continue play
I hear you and it makes sense. But as someone said earlier, wouldn't it be possible to just play another match with someone who's interested and have it not count (except for bragging rights)? I wouldn't want to see an unnecessary match factor into the tournament playoff results.

If you look at most other tournaments (sports mainly) If a team who makes the finals drops out or is disqualified for whatever reason most of the time they offer the spot to the next competitor in line. I mean look at all the movies with this plot line....Underdog gets a second chance and then comes back and wins it all.

I understand both sides of the argument my personal feeling is if the person knew that if they made the finals he could not stay then he/she should have graciously bowed out the round before so that someone else could have made it that was staying. whatever decision the higher ups make will be fine because my chances of making it to the finals or even to the spot before the finals are about the same as me winning the lottery.

I really don't think that if the field of 65 was set and all teams were @ the sites and a team came down with an illness and could not play the NCAA would not fly another team in to play the game.

I do see people are starting to lean towards not bumping even people who voted option 3.

I do think we need to make it the same for every major tourny in the world.

I kinda think so too. Consistency is important. But I'm not sure that we have to finalize that decision now. This is a mostly new scenario for us to deal with, so maybe we'd be wise to give it some time to percolate and then see how people think about it after a while.

agreed seeing how regionals have already started either wait till gencon (which I doubt there will be a problem) or make a new ruling when the updated floor rules come out next year.
