I own a bunch of miniatures from RS, UH, and CotF. I also own one of each non-unique Fringe character from CS and RotS. Are there any older squad builds on this site for beginners to grab and play? I'm somewhat familiar with the minis and know who does what but to just jump in and play with others who have never seen the stats, I don't see that being fair. I think some pre-built 100 point squads would work best. Maybe one for each faction. If nothing like this exists, can any of you recall whatbwere popular squads from the beginning of the game that a beginner could utilize effectively?

Another thought I had for our first skirmishes was to simulate a booster draft by writing down mini numbers and drawing a R/VR, the uncommons, and the commons and playing that way. That way it'd be random and we'd have to work with what we given. Not sure if I'd separate factions out or just mix them up as real booster drafting would be done.

I don't know about pre-made squads, but I'd suggest sticking with scrub characters first -- cheap units with very few SAs, such as the Clone Trooper, or even the HK-50 Assassin Droid. That way, anyone learning can focus on the more standard rules of the game without having to worry about too many abilities, or complex interaction (such as Sith Battle Manipulation). Maybe add in Commanders after a couple of games, and maybe even a couple of Jedi.

The one thing I would not suggest is anything from the V-Sets. Way too complex for people just learning the game.

As far as randomizing Miniatures, if you go to 'Other'>'Open Boosters' here on bloomilk, you can choose a set and it will open up a 'booster pack', and generate a booster worth of random minis from the chosen set, just like you opened one new and played 'out of the box'. If you use the 'Collection' feature here on bloomilk, you can even make it restrict the pieces it 'opens' to your collection only.

So cool! Thanks! Saves me time and energy devising a program to do that for me.

As mentioned - for a starter squad you want few SAs. 100pts is probably best. One or at most two 'main' figures, one commander, and the rest grunts. The grunts should include some higher-cost pieces (10-15) so that the whole squad isn't more than 8-10 figures.

--Imperial Starter Squad--
53 Darth Vader, Imperial Commander
14 Imperial Officer
22 Elite Stormtrooper x2
10 Stormtrooper x2

(99pts. 6 activations)
