Two questions regarding combined fire:

1) If I have a character without melee who happens to be up close and personal with an enemy, can my allies with a LOS still combine fire? The attacking character is simply adjacent, they're not using a melee attack.

2) If I am combining fire against an enemy who has no cover from my attacker, what happens if those combining fire have a LOS with low objects or character blocking their path? Would they still be able to combine fire?

Thanks Smile

To expand on this, to combine fire a character needs to meet 3 qualifications:

1) The character does not have Melee Attack and a Damage Rating of 10 or greater
2) Has not been activated
3) Has LoS to the targeted character.

The targeted character does not need to be a legal target for the character that's combining fire, they just need to be able to draw LoS to them.

Also to note, regarding the first question, there are some characters like the GenoHaradan Assassin whose attacks become melee when attacking adjacent characters. In those situations, you cannot use combined fire.

Insightful. Thanks. A third question: Would a character with Lightsaber +10 have to melee attack when adjacent as well or could I choose to shoot for lower damage? Is that the same as that Assassin you mentioned?

No. The Lightsaber special ability does not change a character's attacks to melee. Contrast the wording of the definition to that of Poisoned Blade, which does make the attack melee.

Also, abilities like those are non-optional. You cannot chose to make a non melee attack when attacking an adjacent character with Poisoned Blade.

New question:

4) Is there ever a way for a character to be able to combine fire more than once per round? For example, if a character has Twin Attack, Double Attack, or is next to a Gonk Droid, would that character be able to combine fire twice in a round or is always a one and done action?

You can do it twice, but only with Admiral Ackbar.

Ah, I haven't done any of the V-Sets yet and really don't intend to start anytime soon. As you've all noticed, I'm still working on understanding all of WotC's rules! Thanks for the reply. Maybe one day we'll give them a whirl!

Give Galen Marek a try. That piece is so much fun.

It is always a one off, since the action activates a character, and you can't activate an already activated character.
